My family just got a 8 week old Siberian Husky puppy. She has been excellent so far when it comes to using the bathroom outside and she has only had one accident in the house. She knows to go to the door when she needs to go out to pee. We have her in a crate to sleep at night and as long as she is tired she goes in and sleeps. However if she isn't tired she will cry and scream. At first we tried ignoring her but when we came back she had pooped in her crate. Even if she just went outside and went to the bathroom. This is especially a problem at night when its 2 in the morning and she wants to play. Also when we go out even if only for 1/2 an hour. we come back to a messy crate. i dont want her to start thinking its ok to poop in her crate. im not sure if shes pooping because shes scared.
is there any suggestions on how to keep her from becoming scared while shes alone in her crate?

thanks;
alanna

the crate came with a divider; she hasnt been left alone for more than 15 minutes unless she was sleeping. when she poops in her cage its usually about 5 minutes after she was put in the crate when she was awake

Her crate might be too big... Dogs in general will not poop where they sleep... However, if the crate is too big and they have too much room they will poop.. So, using plywood or something removeable make the crate smaller... Giving her enough room to turnaround in....I know it sound mean, but it's not... Also, you may have to get up early and let her out,she may be spending too much time in her crate and not able to hold her pee/poop. On avg. a new puppy can only hold pee/poop for a couple hours.. If she feels lonely in her crate put a clock radio or something on for her to listen to when she goes in there at night or you are not home.. Husky's are very, very social and do not like to be left alone for long periods of time... Good luck

I have crate trained several puppies. Some take to the crate very well, and some by nature have separation anxiety. Usually time helps and the dog gets used to it, but not always. My five month old english springer spaniel cries incessantly whenever we put him in the crate, to the point where one family member actually stays home with him so we do not have to put him through that stress as often.
If your dog is pooping in the crate, the crate itself is probably too big for him. Walmart and other stores sell special crates with barriers that you can use to make the crate smaller and then larger as the puppy grows. The puppy will be much less likely to mess in his crate if he has smaller room and would be forced to sit close to his mess.
Another thing that has helped with the stress is playing soft music or using a white noise machine...anything to calm down the puppy.
Good luck and I hope this helped!

she needs to know that going into the crate is a good thing.try leaving her some small treats everytime she goes into the crate.if you leave for a long period of time and shes left in her crate leave some music on for her.like.......id say jazz or something peaceful so she wont get wired.
try that for about 2 weeks.
but if she does poop in her crate you take her immediatly outside and scold er and tell her that it was wrong for her to do that, but if she find that going into the crate is a good thing then she shouldnt do that anymore

no when she crys 2 in the morning thats her sign to let her out to go pee.When your home during the day let her in and out of the crate as she pleases. I even fed my puppy in there a few times. Also when she cries during the night let her out of the crate just to go outside and right back in the cage. It worked for me.GOOD LUCK!

What you have to do is cover her cage at night if it is not to hot or make the kennel smaller but still big enough for her to move around in to help withthe bathroom problem. also wake up early to take her out pain in the butt but it works!

As for the crying part you need to play music or leave a t.v on for her when your gone. What i did for mine is when we were home we didn't leave my pup out all the time after about two hours of him being out we put him into the kennel and left the room we didn't leave anything on except for an occasional low t.v. But after a half-an-hour to and hour we would take him out say good boy and give him a treat. now we say in and he goes right into his kennel! Hope it helps! :)

Also, puppies and can only hold there bathroom in for how old they r! Ex. A dog is 2months old they can hold it in for 2 hours! It only works when they are months old not years! :)
