When I was a child in 1955, my family moved into a house that was infested with cockroaches! ( I still hate them to this day, and they still scare me.)
My father went to the hardware store, and bought DDT! He Put it behind the refrigerator, under the sink and stove!
The kitchen had an old fashion swinging door that went both ways, and the light was in the center of the room, with a string pull to turn it on! Before DDT, you'd walk into the kitchen, turn on the light, and see hundreds of them scatter and run and hide! On the day he put it down, that night ,I went into the dark kitchen, barefooted, and felt ickky crunching, and when I turned on the light I screamed! The floor was covered from on end of the room to the other, with DEAD ROACHES! It took my mother an hour to get all of them swept up and out! After that, not one roach, was ever seen in that house again! My sister and I were 6 and 8! WE were never in any danger of or from the DDT! When it is used properly, and as directed, there is no danger!

DDT isn't going to do squat. Its the same thing as trying to apply a bandaid to a compound fracture.
It may reduce malaria for a short time, but many of the species of African mosquitos, have shown great resiliance to DDT. If they are resistant, after a short time, many of them will be. By that time you will have bioaccumulation effects screwing up the environment, and mosquitos that need a gallon of the stuff dumped on them, individually, before it will have an effect.
Even if DDT did not cause environment problems, mosquitos aren't the only resivoir for infection of malaria. Water that is contaiminated witht he stuff is just as big of a resivoir for infection as mosquitos. afterall, where do yo think mosquitos pick it up at?
They should promote better water filtration, and more sanitary habits, along with the innoculation of Bacillis thuringensis into standing water to reduce mosquito populations. This way, thepeople aren't breathing that garbage when they are using it indoors.
DDT is still being used in Africa, so she isn't really promoting anything, but our tax dollars being used to buy them a large stockpile before the current administration is no longer in office. If you haven't noticed, that seems to be the common theme with this administration.

DDT is still used in many countries. according to wikipedia.org:
As of 2006, DDT continues to be used in other (primarily tropical) countries where mosquito-borne malaria and typhus are serious health problems. Use of DDT in public health to control mosquitoes is primarily done inside buildings and through inclusion in household products and selective spraying; this greatly reduces environmental damage compared to the earlier widespread use of DDT in agriculture.
so its used in smaller amounts that have to be regulated!

So you are promoting Malaria killer of millions. If you don't like the use of DDT how about providing a solution to stopping Malaria that is cheap and effective. DDT is cost effective and it works. But you want another program that does not work

I think you need to do a little research on both malarial diseases and DDT. Malarial diseases in Africa cause millions of deaths and countless cases of illness each year. DDT, used judiciously (not like it was used to the point of environmental disaster in the USA in the 50s), is the best weapon available to combat mosquitos that carry malaria.
