I personally have been against the Iraq war to begin with I am very liberal and never have liked Bush and I'm hoping the war is over in a year as it has gone on way too long. So how much longer will American troops be in Iraq?

The bench marks for the withdrawal of troops in Iraq are based not upon time but upon the ability of the new Iraqi government to sustain itself and the new Iraqi Military to defend itself. Presently both are prospects are very disappointing. Presently the Iraqi government is not able to enforce it's own laws, the police force can not police, and their army can not hold the field.
The present tactic the US is using is trying to play the nice guy which requires time and consistency which the American public is lacking the political will to see it through.
The situation has been worsened by the entrance of Iranian forces into the the southern region. The US has been fairly effect in containing and hitting back at the various infiltration elements, but the recent entrance of Iranian forces present new problems to the military. The US does not want to expand the war into Iran, Iran is aware of this and is becoming more and more involved. A number of recent ambushes upon US forces were not from Iraqi but Iranian military forces including the possible capture of 2 soldiers.
The US knows that the failure to conclude the war successfully will bolster the Islamic extremist cause and endanger American interest and citizens around the world. The US leadership has effectively cornered itself, both militarily and politically, and I do not see a positive conclusion for the US.

Bless you for your concern. My brother is home from Iraq and he says if we pull out by 2009 it will be a miracle. Right now, soldiers aren't doing much in the way of patroling. Its more of a fight to protect themselves.

Bush is keeping our troops in harms way because he is too ignorant to see the truth.

They are building 14 permanent bases. There will be some kind of American military presence there for at least 50 years. Not the same kind of number as now, but some, for another whole generation.

If, by some miracle, the US succeeds in installing a freindly government there, indefinitely, as there will be military bases in the country, just as there are in other allied nations, like South Korea, for instance.

People over there in the Middle East have been fighting for thousands of years. Now, who in the hell is gonna stop them? United States needs to take care of their own people too. To me, it looks like the government cares more about other countries than they do their own.

I am almost 90% certain it won't happen when Bush leaves office. We'll be in Iraq for at LEAST another five to ten years (we might decrease the amount of troops we've got over there but we won't be completely out).

Considering the fact that we've still got bases in Cuba, Germany, Japan, etc...etc...etc....do you really think we'll be completely out of Iraq any time soon....I don't think so.

Until Bush is out of office. He has made me so angry this year. He'll veto stem cell research which americans are for but will give full health care to illegals. Same with the war, its time we had a democrat in office that will straighten out this mess.

I can tell you the correct answer:

Our "moral obligation'
to 'liberate' Iraq
and presence there
for the 'good of the people'
as well as our
'need to contain terrorism'
will last until the last
the very last,
of when,
THE OIL RUNS DRY................
