I made some sauce using store bought jar sauce, ground beef, and mushrooms. It ended up having no taste at all. Any suggestions of what I could add for flavour?

What happened was that the beef wasn't seasoned enough before you browned it, you did brown it before you put in in the sauce, didn't you?? I "doctor" my spaghetti sauce the way the rest of the folks here have advised, and my trick is to add a 6 oz. can of tomato PASTE and it really kicks up the flavor.......try that next time, and season your ground beef before you brown it......When you are adding something to a recipe, you have to be careful that it's not going to negate the other flavors.........mushrooms can also do that, so try my suggestion next time.......Enjoy!!

Hmm well I always make sure I season my meat with season salt while it's browning. Then while that's cooking I chop up garlic, and veggies I want to add ( I love zucchini and mushrooms) and saute them in a pan of olive oil and a tablespoon of butter for flavor....I make sure to season the veggies with a little salt and pepper as well....cook till the veggies are tender. I throw the garlic, veggie mixture and the drained meat into the sauce and taste to see if I got the flavor right. If not I usually tend to add some oregano or Italian seasoning and some garlic salt. When I have 5 mins till its ready I like to add Parmesan cheese in the sauce and cover it on low...

I normally fry the ground beef then throw in some red wine, let simmer to burn out the alcohol, then add my sauce. Then add Garlic salt, sugar, parsley, basil, bay leaf, parmesan cheese, red pepper flakes and some worcestershire sauce. Let simmer for awhile then finish off with more salt or sugar to taste. I hope this helps a litto. Good luck.

You need to add spices. The best way to give the store bought marinara flavor is by roasting a head of garlic and squeezing it into the sauce on the stove and letting it mix in.
(You roast a head by cutting off the top third of it, wrapping in foil and baking at 350 degrees for about an hour).
DEFINITELY add spices... Lots of parsley is good w/ out overwheling, some oregano and basil....

Add fresh basil, sage, oregano, a garlic clove and a little onion along with your store bought sauce in a blender. Blend for about 30 seconds. It makes all the difference in the world. Enjoy!

Add more Italian seasonings to it, as in oregano, basil rosemary...don't be afraid to experiment, just be careful with spices that are already salted. Enjoy that kitchen!
