Can you only be caught by one that is on the same side of the road as you? What does the fluorescent yellow side mean? Thanks

I wish people (Mel) would read the rest of the question. Obviously I know that you have to be speeding to get caught and I don't ever intentionally speed. Its just a question! I just wasn't sure if a camera on the other side of the road could catch you.

Therefore - if when you drive towards a camera (on either side of the road) if it is not fluorescent yellow does that mean it will only work on the other side of the road?

You can be causght on both sides of some speed cameras but not all what they do is they take two pics of you on then another 700th of a second later and the first one they check where your back wheel is then on the second one and each line measures 5 miles per hour so they can decipher your speed I think to miss one you have to be traveling over 180 miles per hour to not get caught. The yellow strip is so that you can see the camera because they are not allowed to hide them ages ago they did but people started spray painting them etc to make them noticable so now you can see where they are. The old film types can take your pic both way but I think the newer ones dont'.

Depends on the camera. The original square windowed box is a GATSO and takes a 2 pix of your back plate as you drive over the ladder markings on the road. The round windows belong to a Truvelo which takes your front picture as you cross a single mark on the road. Both can look across to the other side of the road if needed. There are also other point cameras and the average speed system that catches your number plate and times you over a mile or so. These are small cameras painted yellow mounted on an overhead gantry. It is rumoured that these can only monitor 1 lane, so switching lanes defeats them, but don't count on it!

Some cameras cover both sides of the road. The simple answer is don't speed. If the camera has only one fluorescent side it is likely that it only takes on that side of the road.

The fluorescent yellow is there to warn you it's a portable obstruction and not to run into it. Yes, you can only be caught by a camera that is facing you.

when you are speeding, and no you can't be caught by a camera on the other side of the road.and as for the colour they all have to be painted that colour so we can see them as we approach them,it's law.

Are you serious?!! If you pass any speed camera and you are exceeding the speed limit, you can and will be caught!

As it is illegal to speed, you should not have to worry about it.

If you are speeding, you are breaking the law and deserve to be caught
