Property taxes vary from state to state and city to city. In California the property tax is set at 1% of the purchase price and is allowed to increase up to 2% per year. The property tax in various cities and counties varies because additional taxes have been approved by voters. In California this can equate to a total tax rate of 1.15% more or less.

Property taxes are due in two equal (50%) installments.

Property tax amounts are set by the taxing authority, such as county, municipality or school district, so can be different depending on where you live. It varies so much there isn't even a "typical" amount.
