He or she is in a better place? I guess you would have to say he or she is in a worse place?

You could say "My condolences" "Sorry for your loss, he/she will be missed, but their memory lives on" or maybe "When ya gotta go, ya gotta go" LOL (tard!!)

There are some things worse than death. I helped put a dog down the other day who was much worse off than dieing. And if you take a scientific approach to the Swedenborgian concept of heaven and hell then they could very well be in a better place than here, or a fundies idea of where they might be.

Just because an atheist doesn't have any Faith in something more important than themselves, doesn't mean that they're not caring people. I would assume that most would morn the loss of a loved one just like anyone else.

I would say that I'm sorry for their loss, and I would be. Why should their "faith" dictate my caring towards them?

Donald, I'm sure that, if you rush, you'll be able to sign up for a summer class in logic at your local junior college. In a nut shell, as no doubt your mom and dad taught you, to any person who has lost a loved you, you express your condolences quietly and briefly. I suppose a Fundy would think it amuses his 'god' for him to be less than a civilized human being, but in the real world, the world outside of mad-dog fundamentalism, civilized behavior is seen as both essential and a plus. Try it.

Non-existence could not be a worse place. You have no opinion or perspective in non-existence.

I dont think there's any need to be an ******** to someone who is grieving

there's nothing wrong with "I'm sorry for your loss" or words to those effect.

You can say that to my family when I die, because I'm being shot into outer space!
