Cause we have LAWS. The vast majority of Legal Americans are Native Born.....so the "We are a nation of immigrants is null and void for present day America.
Every country has a border to protect its citizens, economy, ......from invaders.
Too bad the power brokers want the US a Turd World Nation.
Btw-----Remember how Iran pushed back 100K refugees from Afghanistan back to their county. Iran means biz unlike the lip service the US Gov gives Legal Tax Paying Americans.

You asked a 'question' about the history of the American SW that's often trotted out by the pro-illegal crowd.
But, you're right in pointing out that not every pro-illegal is illegal, themselves.
For that matter, not everyone claiming to be of a given race or citizenship is telling the truth.

Because most American's are hypocritical, selfish people. I for one welcome immagrants to our nation, at least most of them are coming here to work. The real problem people are the free loading, welfare hording, child producing waste of lives that sit around while they could be getting jobs, or an education to help them get on their own two feet. I say we get rid of welfare so those lazy few don't have any option but to provide for them selves.
