How can I force a program like Internet Explorer or YIM to use only my satellite connection, not dial-up?

I have both dial-up and satellite. If I am on YIM using satellite and then open the dial-up connection, YIM closes and reconnects via dial-up, i.e., it uses the most recent connection. I would like to force Internet Explorer, Outlook Express and YIM to use only the satellite connection.

Whenever you make a connection (whether by satellite or dial-up) you are assigned an IP address. You can only have one IP address at a time. Only one connection at a time can run over one IP address.

When you start the second connection, that second connection will automatically assign its IP address, overwriting the first IP address. That kills the first connection, and moves everything to the other connection.

Sorry, but only one IP address per device on the Internet....
