Shakespeare Garden is also beautiful..I was lucky, it wasnt crowded at all, go during the week. The Bow bridge over the Lake is another very pretty area.

Central Park is amazing.. I've been to great parks but this one tops them all.

The fountains are giant sized..theres another fountain on the edge of the park thats gorgeous, it was the 'Pulitzer Fountain. '

Make sure you have a map of the park..theres lots to see, a map makes it much easier to find everything.

My favorite is the Central Park Zoo. It's small enough you feel you don't have to rush through all of the exhibits without thinking you might miss something. Unlike the Bronx Zoo, which is huge, the Central Park Zoo is just the right size for someone who is mildly curious about wildlife. Out of the Zoo, Shakespeare in the Park, The Row Boat rides, the sailboat races on the cement pond, the outdoor feel of the great lawn.

My favorite place in Central Park since I was a child is Belvedere Castle

You can tour inside. There's a nature observatory and the Castle overlooks The Great Lawn and the Turtle Pond. There's a National Weatherstation in the Castle (you know, when you listen to the news and you hear "the temperature in Central Park is now 102 degrees" - they take that reading at Belvedere Castle. This must also be the place in New York City that gets the most snow. They reported that in February of 2006 there was 27" of snow - I never saw anything close to that - I still think this was greatly exaggerated.

I also love the Carousel, the Alice in Wonderland Statue, the Dairy, the Zoo, the Boat Pond, Bethesda Fountain and Balto, one of my lifelong heros.

I'm amazed at how much visitors love Central Park. I've always lived in New York - in an apartment - never had a garden, yard, attic or basement. So, it's natural that I love to be in a huge space filled with trees, flowers, grass, nature. But, it's amazing that people from rurual areas - where trees, flowers, grass, little animals are so common to see - that these people love Central Park so much.

When at the central park zoo try to be there on the hour when you can watch the animals dance around the clock (no not real animals silly, statues that revolve around the clock)
