How can you tell me there is no god when I gave you one example( people return to dust from which they came in which god says in Genesis 3:19 "By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return." This passage was written years ago and still holds true today. I want to know your proof on how God does not exist DO NOT GIVE ME YOUR FEELINGS ON IT, GIVE me PROOF that he does not exist. ONE more thing, I have another proof if God words were not true and did'nt have value because he's not "real", then how come women all over the world have bitrth pains? It states in the bible Genesis 3:16 "To the woman he said, "I will increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children." Heres another proof for me why god is real, SHOW me yours.

The complete lack of proof that there is a god. It is not on us to prove that he doesn't exist, it is on you to prove that he does. And bible verses ain't gonna cut it.

You demand that people who claim there is no God prove that God does not exist.

Why do you not first prove that God does exist? You should know there is no absolute proof of His existence, because people who believe in God do so as a matter of faith, not logic.

Merely quoting a passage from the Bible is not sufficient to prove your assertion. You present us with a series of propositions which actually "prove" nothing.

These propositions are:.

1. Your claim that God exists (ok we can respect your belief)
2. The Bible records that God said to the woman, "you will give birth... with pain" (ok we can see that)
3. Women have birth pains (ok we know that)
4. Because women have birth pains, God exists (sorry, that doesn't "prove" anything).

If you reckon that is "proof" then I suggest you take a basic course in Logic, and learn that Circular Reasoning is, "the practice of assuming something in order to prove the very thing that you assumed".

* the answer above mine says much the same as I do, though more precisely. I use a commonly-understood word "propositions" where he uses the academic word "premises".

** Hollie: where is the proof that God does exist? You might believe it in your heart and soul, but in my head that's not "proof".

The Genesis story/stories are etiological stories/myths: The following is from http://www.pantheon.org/articles/e/etiological_myths.html:

"Explanatory myths. These are stories which provide a mythological explanation for peculiar things in nature or certain events and customs of which the origin has long been forgotten. "

Just because you can cite a etiological story does not make that story true. Etiological stories do not prove anything.

The phenomena you mention (people returning to dust, which by the way seems to be only one possible fate of dead bodies, and the pain of child birth) are facts of nature. These facts are open to explanations that have no relationship to the Genesis stories.

See also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etiology#In_mythology.

The existence or non-existence of God rests less on formal proof than on co-ordination with other beliefs.

Young lady, I suggest that you take a course in logic at your earliest opportunity. Your question is so logically flawed that a simple description of the flaws would be considerably longer than the essay itself. Most of them center on the premise that unless every statement in the Bible can be shown to be false, God must exist. This is utterly ludicrous.

Firstly, even most Christians agree that God did not author the Bible directly, but that it was written by people who claimed to be inspired by Him. Even without that inspiration, many observations made by intelligent people would be expected to hold up over the centuries.

Secondly, using the Bible to prove God's existence is a classic example of circular reasoning, i.e.: God inspired the Bible; the Bible contains truth; it mentions God; God exists.

Lastly, to prove God's existence to non-believers who do not accept the Bible as definitive truth, you must look outside the Bible. You may accept ideas because "the Bible tells me so," but you cannot expect others to do so.

I return to my original challenge: I assert that there is an invisible and undetectable windmill in Central Park. Prove to me that it does not exist. You cannot and need not--the burden of proof is on me because I originated the idea that it exists. Likewise, the burden of proof is on you to prove the existence of God by accepted scientific and academic standards, not by stilted and faulty logic. No one has done so as of yet; if someone had, there would be no need for faith.

A 2000 year old book written by goat herders isn't proof of anything. If you want books of wisdom, the Hindu Mahabharata, has more wisdom in it than the Bible ever though of having. That doesn't mean anything except that its an old book of wisdom that was written a long time ago. There is no proof of God. Period. We don't need to prove that there is no proof of something. If there is no proof, it isn't real.

And if everything in the Bible is true, then child abuse is OK according to Psalms 137:9 "Happy is he that take your little children and smashes them against the rocks."

People died and returned to dust *before* that was written, and women had birth pains * before* that was written, so that's only proof that the people who wrote it knew that bodies decompose and women suffer labor during childbirth. It's definitely not proof of God.
Quoting the Bible is *never* proof of God. The Bible was written by the people who invented your religion. The things in it that are true are true because the authors knew about them before they wrote the Bible.

The reason why those verses were added into the Bible, was because of the fact that the "punishments" were occuring when the Bible was written, so they decided to make them acts of their god. That's like saying "hey, since the universe exists, God exists, because it says in Genesis that God created the heaven and earth!" It's not proof of anything.

It is impossible to prove that God doesn't exist, but due to the lack of evidence, and the large amount of contradictory evidence, it's extremely unlikely.

Let me play the devil's advocate here. You are quoting from a book that athiests believe is fiction. That is not proof for them. These people have also never felt the Spirit of our Lord and Savior testify to them that God lives and He loves each and every one of us, including those who do not believe He is real. While the Bible is proof enough for us, it is not for them. However, they do have the God-given right to not believe just as we have the right to believe.

Just pray for those unbelievers to have their hearts softened and feel the Spirit of the Lord. But don't tell them that you'll pray for them. They might get mad. Which also make no sense to me because if there were no God then we would just be talking to ourselves and why would a non-believer get mad over that?

There is no such thing as someone that doesn't believe in a God. There are people that don't want to because it means they have to change, and there are those that just refuse to think about it, but we are created knowing.

Rom 1:20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

After all, he put Eternity in our hearts.

Ecc 3:11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man's heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.

Because all those words you just typed where written by man. not god. The bible didn't just come out the sky. Bible was written by men. The bible is one big story of fiction not fact. There is so man flaws and mistakes in the bible. If it was god's word it would be perfect wouldn't it.

To the contrary, before you profess that 'god says in Genesis...', you must first prove there is a god. Normally, people don't go around proving that things don't exist. Anyone can observe that women have pain when giving birth to a child. And again, before you go saying that 'god said ...' you need to first prove a god exists.
