How do prehistoric beasts figure into the whole creationism side of the creation v. evolution argument. Some people take the Adam and Eve story quite literally, but I want to know where things such as dinosaurs fit into the whole scheme of things. Were humans created as an afterthought, since we are one of the youngest species on the planet? This is not an attack, I just am interested to see what people think of this.

Sophie, If humans and dinosaurs were on earth at the same time, don't you think that stories about these giant beasts might have made their way into the bible? I mean dinosaurs would be kind of hard to overlook...

Creationism covers a wide range of beliefs the majority of which believe in evolution.

The bible mentions many animals that we are familiar with today such as lions, wolves, bears, sheep, cattle and dogs along with various kinds of birds, rodents, reptiles, and insects. What is interesting is that this extensive list includes three animals that we no longer recognize. These three are (in the original Hebrew language) tanniyn, behemowth and livyathan.

Although we alter the spelling of behemoth and Leviathan slightly, we still use those same words in bibles today. However, tanniyn is always translated into another word when we write it in English. Tanniyn occurs 28 times in the Bible and is normally translated “dragon.” It is also translated “serpent,” “sea monster,” “dinosaur,” “great creature,” and “reptile.” Behemoth and Leviathan are relatively specific creatures, perhaps each was a single kind of animal. Tanniyn is a more general term, and it can be thought of as the original version of the word “dinosaur.” The word “dinosaur” was originally coined in 1841, more than three thousand years after the Bible first referred to “Tanniyn.” How we got these new names is interesting. In 1822, Mary Ann Mantell became the first person to discover and correctly identify a strange bone as part of a large, unknown reptile. Her husband, Dr. Gideon Mantell, later named this creature an “Iguanodon.” From that time forward, these forgotten animals were given names chosen by the people who rediscovered them. Of course, the Bible, written between approximately 1450 BC and 95 AD, does not include any of these names.

Actually, there is no proof that prehistoric beasts walked the earth...

Yes, there are fossils.. but did those creatures really walk the earth or were the fossils created as they are now?...

We do not know the methods of Creation.. some even speculate that God used Evolution to create man...

Most people forget that even if everything was Created in the beginning.. it may be evolving now (remember there were no pests in the beginning either.. they were created after Adam and Eve sinned)...

How about the motion of the stars, or their light.. some people think that just because we are getting light from stars that are billions of lightyears away that it PROVES that the universe is older than a billion years.. but don't you think that God could have created the stars and the light in place so that we could see it now?...

I do not know HOW things were created.. but I have FAITH that they were created by God and Jesus Christ.

Excellent question!

I think about creation vs evolution, and my logic is this:
The concept of creation and evolution exist because they are both plausible and believable, if you look at them both with an open mind.

I, myself, believe in Creation and completely reject evolution. Evolution has too many holes, but on the other side creation is a matter of faith. I don't know why people argue since, really, none of us was there.

Now getting back to your question. There is a mention of "behemoth" in the book of Job. God is telling Job to " behold Behemoth which I made with thee" (Job 40:15-24). This means that God made this animal at the same time he made man. It also says that he eats grass like an ox. THen it describes him saying that his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly, meaning tha the has a very strong mid section. If we read on God says that he moves his tail like a cedar. He can drink up the Jordan. In verse 21 it says "Under the lotus plants he lies, hidden among the reeds in the marsh. " Now the lotus plant can gro up to 6 meters depending of the depth of the water. So what other animal can you think of with a strong mid section, that tall, with a tail like a cedar? It HAS to be a dinosaur. Any big animals we know today dont' have tails like cedars. Elephants, Rhinos, Hippos, all have little tails. Besides, they usuall don't grow to be up to 6 meters tall.

So this is why I believe that dinosaurs and man existed at the same time.

Then he goes on to describe him.

I think that dinosaurs and humans were on Earth at the same time. They could have gone extinct in the flood. Maybe it wasn't in God's plan to keep them on Earth. Scientists have found human footprints and dinosaur footprints in the same layer of sediment in a dried up riverbed. I don't know what more evidence is needed. God bless.

Supposedly God used evolution to make humans... umm... haha... so the whole Genesis story is really a hoax... something to make little kids feel all special and warm inside - !?

Evolution and God do not mix... stop trying people, it just doesn't add up in any way
