Seems to me that if a god really existed and he made us then he would be responsible for how we are, and therefore for what we do... is that not so? If not, how do we absolve him of the responsibility for making us the way we are?

When was the last time you thanked Him for the good in your life?
Is it logical to fault God for the evil and not thank Him for the good?
Is your life so terrible?
Did you wake up today in pain and poverty and sickness and with confusion and with wild beasts trying to break down your door?
With your attitude, those things just might be coming.

Seems to me you are gaining a lot of understanding from the Bible. Good show.

As a "NO" I say it is all God's fault and doing thus I seek out why. Once I understand the why, the and only then can a decision be made as to what to do. You keep seeking and then you will also be in a position to make a decision, the most important one you will ever make my friend.

You see my friend, one side blames God and the other side blames man. Of course the middle ones who are not sure just say they are agnostic. Why waste the time finding fault and spend it seeking a solution. Is it possible that maybe God has a good reason for what is being as it is? A "NO" says YES.

My friend a man who has tasted the darkness and understands what darkness really is will appreciate the light. One must fall down to learn how to get up. Likewise one must know what it is to be in want to appreciate more what it is to have.

could some of these be a reason for what does exist as it exists?

Christians may be mocked for believing some dusty old book that took literally centuries to come to this generation. But, the words ring with majesty and truth. No one will be surprised by God’s judgment because God reads the heart; no one can do that but God. The bible says even where there is no Gospel preached, God can discern if a person would accept Christ by the way their conscience operates. That’s how God covers Adam and those who lived before the birth of Christ.
Adam and Eve was placed in a heaven - like garden, even the animals were at peace with them. They feasted on the wisdom of God daily until Satan convinced them that he had wisdom that would make them like God himself. Adam bought into that faulty wisdom and that effectively made US responsible for all the evil that followed.
The Garden of Eden is history but that same deceiver (SATAN) is at work in the heart and mind of humanity. GOD HAS TAKEN RESPONSIBILITY,
GOD DIDN’T SIT SNUGGLY IN HIS HEAVEN while all hell broke loose down here. God showed his Love and concern by putting His bacon on the line with Jesus sacrifice to UNDO the garden incident.
So why not just take the CURE?? Christ IS the CURE. Every person’s life is being played out in real time so that the (angels) and man can WITNESS how God has judged fairly. The rich, the poor, the kings the presidents, every soul is accounted for even to a single hair on their head. Obviously there are things we mortals have not been told but there is more than enough made known to be able to appreciate Christ and God the father.

So let's say you're suffering, and you pray for relief, and it doesn't come. Do you blame God, and continue in pain, or blame yourself and take action to relieve your own pain? It would seem that if you must blame someone, start local. The response may be quicker.

I work in a factory, and find myself being blamed for much of the mistakes made. Nothing pleases my Ego more than being blamed, because it reveals to all the power I have among my so called superiors. Blame is empowering. Blame is the original psychology.

People who don't take blame, are known as Munchhausen, and that's a disorder. The trouble is, too much blame is crippling. The cure for our suffering can sometimes be as bad as the suffering. So we need to be forgiven!

Do you see a pattern developing?

I see it like this. If I gave someone a gun, knowing that they would do bad things with it, I should be held responsible for their actions (as well as the person who did the deed).

God gave us free-will to make our own decisions, knowing that we would all do wrong at some point (an oft quoted line on Y!A is that God knows who is going to heaven and hell, before they are even born). Therefore, he is equally responsible as us.

I totally agree with you, Religious people think its all God's work, all the suicide bombers are God's hit men! When God has made this universe why is it so hard for him to kill beings himself?
If we are made with God's image then we all have the same DNA (Divine Natural Awareness) to feel and understand the good things of life, but people's thinking are all blocked with all the false notions of God.
Besides life is difficult, hence in order to blame someone for their follies God is used. It makes dissappointments feel better. Its just a coping style. In the eastern countries people die with all kinds of illnessness and the medical infra structure is poor, they cope by saying "He came with this amount of time in his hand, it was time for him to go," In the western country, God has no hand in writing the life of people , even at 94, surgeries are performed and the person is sent to rehab. Wonder when people will think rationally, Religion takes away people';s intelligence thats the sad part.

God gave us free will and its pretty clear cut: choose the good way or the bad way. Your choice, your call. God has given us instructions through his Prophets and divine revelation. He has done this because he loves us and wants to draw us back to him. Every time you rebel you are just pushing yourself away form his mercy and love. Does this make sense?

Of course not, it's God's fault as well. I think that a useful conception of God is that he comprises all existance, and it involves all the good, the bad and the ugly.

You're asking questions that are answered in the Bible. If you would read it with the intent of learning, you will know.
Responsible for how we are? Can I hold you responsible for my choices? Clearly not. We cannot blame God for choices that we ourselves make.

your line of questioning is off the mark. "It's man's fault for suffering and pain. Not God." Does this make sense? first of all who is actually causing and doing the pain & suffering? ask yourself that. when you find the answer then you will know who is causing the pain and sufffering.
