I forgot my license when I was at radio shack. I am driving to chicago from St. Louis. Is it ok if I carry the color and black and white copy of my license? It is the same one I had but just the copies.

I think it would be good to prove that you have one but you should get your new one ASAP.

Technically, no. You are required to have a valid driver's license at all times while operating a motor vehicle. A cop would be justified in issuing you a citation for that, but probably wouldn't since he would have called you in and verified your driving status. If he did, you could probably beat the charge by sending a copy of your license to the courthouse handling the ticket.

No, it will not suffice as a legal drivers license. And, in some states it will actually fall within codification of counterfieting a legal document.

You would be better off to insure you have a valid picture I.D. along with the vehicles registration and insurance card up to date. Granted, you may receive a citation for failure to maintain your license on person/vehicle, but it 's better than gambeling a potential felony charge for counterfieting.

Some states, upon discovery will order you to demonstrate proof (come up with your actual license), within 24 to 72 hours and some may even op't to impound your vehicle . Others will enforce the citation regardless, and others may make you pay the bail immediately if they don't maintain mutual agreement compacts with other states to enforce compliance. There are many ways it might be handled by the individual state. There is NO one single answer because every state, jurisdiction, down to local municipality maintains their own protocal.

It would show proof that you have a drivers license, but if you're stopped for any reason, you would be brought into the station to post a cash bond for failure to produce a valid drivers license.

Technically, you need to have the original license in your possession. If you get pulled over and have a prick cop, they can write you an extra fine for not having the license. Most cops however wouldn't be jerks about it, unless you are a jerk to them. My recommendation would be, DONT SPEED, and you should be fine.
