how can you keep squarils off a bird feeder?

we have feeder on a pole.
we put a bowl on it

you can buy squirell free feeders at walmart or home depot

Another trick is adding powdered (cayenne) pepper to the bird seed. Peppers do not bother the birds at all (actually beneficial). The squirrels, however, hate it so they will eventually leave the feeder alone.

Cover the pole in vaseline. The animals then can't climb up the pole to the bowl. Plus it won't hurt the animals.
