Ooooh that's a toughie. Your Momma thinks there's no harm and buys food that will fill her family up, rather than nourish her family with *healthy* nutrients. It's hard to tell a mom that she's doing something wrong. She needs to know that you have a goal and want to work towards it. I wouldn't say "You suck, you buy fatty foods" or anything offensive in the least.
I'd offer to go grocery shopping with her, or ask if you can. Ask if you can buy certain foods that are OBVIOUSLY healthy. She'll see that you're asking for them and have concern for your health. She might take a second look at what she's putting in the cart for herself too!
If she doesn't want to change/take you shopping then I would suggest buying your own food. Do chores for money if you can and use the money to buy your own food. The healthiest things to remember are:
1. PORTION CONTROL: make sure you always leave something leftover (at dinner when your mom says eat everything on your plate....remember to not put that much on it or remind her of your goal). In france (a relatively skinny population) a single meal is the size of ones fist. Remember that you are eating enough to gain energy and not die of starvation....Look at your fist....eat that much. (not right away but when you've already lost the weight you want. Also (an american tip) After the first *I'm full sigh* stop eating no matter how good the food is because that is a sign that your stomach is at it's MAX capacity. If you keep eating you'll end up making your stomach bigger than it needs to be.
2. MUSCLE BURNS FAT: the more muscle you have the more fat you'll lose. (Girls will not get all beefy and manly looking because in order to P-U-M-P up your muscles you need testosterone. You NEED to gain muscle.
3. WALKING...not running....is the best way to lose weight. It's also better on your knees/joints and wont wear you out before you get a full work out in.

First- ignore what your mother says. If she gets mad at you for not eating junk, tell her she'll thank you when you're still alive in 10 years, and if she wants you to eat the food she buys, nix the junk in favor of fruits and veggies. If she needs the crunch of chips, get popcorn, and granola.
The way you lose weight, whatever anyone else says, is to burn more calories than you consume. How you do that, is a matter of huge debate. I know what you're going through, I'm in the middle of trying to loose 100lbs, that a medication packed on me. It's not easy. You have to start slow. Cut back on soda, drink water instead. I went from a big time soda drinker, to almost nothing but water, and I dont miss it. Then start an exercise program. A 15 min yoga workout in the morning, then progress to a full workout at some point during the day, and increase the difficulty as you go. It takes lots of time, and dedication, but it IS doable. Try to find someone who is in the same position you are, to encourage you. That's what I'm looking for right now.
Good luck- you can do it!

Hi. I think your guestion is terrific. It's very difficult to try and lose weight when others are buying the wrong types of food.
Dr. Phil.com has a great web site with all kinds of suggestions to help kids, teens and adults. They also have areas on his web site for kids to ask for their parents assistance in helping them lose weight.
Maybe print out an article & let your mom read one & maybe she will help you with your efforts.
Your mom probably loves you just the way you are. I'm a mom too, and weight loss is everywhere out there. But sometimes, our kids need our help in making the right choices and fixing the right kind of meals to help our kids lose weight successfully.
Try and talk with your mom when she is more relaxed and offer to go to the grocery store so you BOTH can pick out healthy things you want to eat. She will not feel she is wasting her money and the snacks & junk food will not be in the house.
Good luck. YOU CAN DO THIS!
Great question.

tell your mom how you feel and that you want to be more healthy and lose weight so instead of junk she could buy some healthy snacks and foods so you all benefit.
find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise (running, jogging, swimming, spinning, elliptical etc) 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

let your mother know how serious you are and that you need her support. ask instead of getting junk food, if she will get you healthier snacks like fresh fruit, etc. I lost weight by cutting back my portions. I dont use a plate I use a saucer. For my meals. I Walk or run which is a good stress reliever. I I dont eat sweets or drink soda or too much juice. Drink plenty of water. Just stay active.

Ask her to buy fruit and healthy snacks instead. I've never heard of anyone's parent being angry because the child wanted to eat healthy food and not junk food.
Also, exercise at least 5 days a week (try for 1 hour) doing brisk walking or jogging or dancing or bicycling or whatever gets your heart beating and body moving.

I've lost 55 lb.s over the last 8 or 9 months. I eat generally healthy foods (No cake or candy). I still eat some bread, though I stick to wheat. I don't count calories, but I do count how much H2O and skim milk I drink. I don't eat after 6 p.m. and I play with my kids. Here's my diet rules and it has worked for me.
Drink at least 5 or 6 glasses of water a day
Drink at least 3 glasses of skim milk a day.
Eat as soon as your hungry so you don't gorge
Eat slowly
Don't starve yourself you'll only mess up your metabolism
Don't eat after 6 p.m.
Never drink soda!

Ask your mom to buy fruits and veggies instead of junk food - they're much healthier choices. Eating lots of fresh raw veggies and some fruit - don't go overboard on fruit - in place of junk food will help you lose weight.

To successfully lose weight, you must carry out
a plan to balance your caloric intake with exercise.
Ideally, dieting should be done by eating a nutritionally
balanced, low-calorie diet and increasing physical activity.
