I'm in the process of trying to drop some weight right now, so my workout goal per week is 2x a day 5 days (45 mins - 1 hour each workout, one before work and one after work) and then on days 6 and 7 I may or may not workout but generally 1 hour or less on either of those days.
When just maintaining, I shoot for at least 1 hour a day, at least 5 days a week. If I do something on day 6 and/or 7 that's fine...if not, I don't sweat it.
I'm 42 and have a slow metabolism (from years of bad dieting practices).

I am 47 and work out at least 1 hour a day, five days a week. You don't say what you do for that 35 minutes. I would suggest a good strength training routine with free weights or weight machines then add any cardio training at the end, such as treadmill, elliptical or stationary bike. Women typically lose bone mass which can cause osteoporosis. The weight bearing exercises will build bone mass, strengthen and tone your muscles, plus increase your metabolism.

A good typical workout is roughly an hours worth of different area related things such as for cardio (heart) I usually go on a slow, 2 mile jog. For abs, you'd probably want to do some crunches, sit-ups. I like to excersize every other day, so I have a day to relax in between. Yet, you can do more or less than this. It's just my type of style. You don't have to take in anything I say, but I hope this will help you. GOOD LUCK!! :)

I work out every day, 2 times a day during the summer, 30-40 minutes in the morning and an hour in the afternoon. I swim and walk/run.
I'm 50.

to lose weight - cardio 4-6 days a week for 30-50min - ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat. and combine it with light weight training to tone up instead of losing muscle because cardio burns both -fat and muscle.
i spend 2 hours at a time in the gym.
