In the airport last week, I found an atheist pamphlet. There was an article that said atheists need to stop wasting their time debating issues such as evolution because it is basically a resolved topic. The author suggested that atheists "declare victory and move on."

What are your thoughts? Are atheists "wasting their time" by debating certain issues? What should they "move on" to?

It’s not about proving evolution true, it’s about teaching people that evolution has already pretty much been proven true. It’s a fight to educate people and we haven't won until they understand.

It's not going to happen. People who understand logic and reason either understand that our position is correct, or don't bother taking part in the shenanigans. The only christians who show their faces here are the truly marginal - the ones who genuinely demonstrated that the biblical use of the term "sheep" was sometimes accurate. They don't undertand our position and I don't think they're capable of doing so. No matter how many times you explain something simple like the burden of proof they come back with a demand we prove god doesn't exist. Take solace in the fact that you're doing the right thing and trying to help these people, even if doing so again and again kind of exposes their cognitive problems. You are doing god's work, son! Oh, wait.

Christians and Atheists will always debate each other on these topics with each side declaring victory. I am a Christian and I always discount what ever foolishness the non believers say about such topics. But as long as there are babies coming into the world each person will have to decide for themselves what to believe. Thus the debates will rage.

Do we need to keep creating new books and such on the topic? Well the evolutionists have to because they have to keep filling in the holes in their theories. They also have to keep explaining away their frauds and scandalous additions.

Creationists have to keep a new book in the bookstores also because books don't have the staying power on the shelves. Some one name the all time classic book that defends and explains creationism and maybe they can stop producing new books, but the nature of all scholarship is to keep plugging away revising and adding to knowledge pool..

I can't quite see what we have won exactly. There is still far too much religious influence in my country (USA), and I will not stop arguing against that as long as I live.

Plus anyone who spends any time here, knows that there are a frighteningly large amount of people who still think the Earth was created in less than 10,000 years and other laughable things. Whoever wrote that pamphlet, is in need of a reality check.

The creation 'museum' has been open only a short time after all.

There are still issues that need to be fought, sadly Atheists lost a case in the Supreme Court; in which the Supreme Court has allowed faith based programs to go forth and have prohibited people from suing those faith based programs.
This is just another step towards the removal of keeping church and state separated from each other.
Also at issue is this idea called Intelligent Design that some people feel should be taught in schools.

Evolution is a proven fact and done deal, eh? Gee, I can't imagine what all the debate has been about, especially in here. Yup. Declaring victory for a topic that is so full of holes and infighting among its own ranks. Better watch out-the atheists are getting REAL organized, now. Where there's logic in that pamphlet is anyone's guess.

Well, the factor that some people within the theist community still like to challenge Atheist on evolution there is obviously still little firestarters out there. For me I am not going to disrespect you or walk around with a superior attitude about being Atheist but I will not sit down and talk someone challenging me either.

I don't think it as an atheist's victory. It was not a battle for the atheists in the first place. It is a topic of science.

To be honest, whether someone accepts science or not, it doesn't cease being true. It is like the rooster that thinks it makes the sun rise everyday.

Just because we are right doesn't change the fact that this is still a problem. Evolution has been widely confirmed, but people are still fighting it's inclusion into schools. This causes direct harm to children, and because of that, there is still a strong impetus to continue the now one sided debate. If it were a purely academic issue, I'd say yes, move on, but it is not.

debate will never stop here on earth. In my opinion atheists are wasting their time. But they also believe Christians are wasting their time. But there are people who switch beliefs everyday. So people see the success and feel the need to tell others.

I've been saying this for a while- evolution IS a dead topic. Anyone in this day and age that denies evolution after all the proof offered up is simply keeping themself ignorant. They are being unreasonable and do not warrant confrontation- they're not worth the time.
