Is he dry when he wakes up from nap. (Unless of course he's like my 3 year old and won't take naps anymore:) ) If he is he's probably ready for potty training. Over the weekend, put him in training pants (I would try to find the cotton ones with the thick midsections and some rubber pants to go on top, they seem to let the child feel wet and helps them train faster)and take him to potty every 1/2 hour or so. Sing his praises when he goes to the potty or lets you know he needs to go. Give him a reward for trying and when he succeeds (an m&m worked for mine). Hopefully by the end of the weekend he'll ahve the technique down and you can just do some reenforcing when neccessary (they go through phases where they don't want to take the time to go potty). Best Wishes!

He is ready when he can say he has pottied and when his diaper is no longer comfortable to him.
You start by putting him on the potty every 15 minutes all day long, and really rewarding him when he goes. It is a headache, but well worth it.

At 3 years if he's normal, he should be ready.
Get a guy to show your son how to pee. Drop some cheerios into the pot and make it a game to sink the cheerios. If he pees, give him 3 M&Ms for being a big boy.
Your son probably has regular times when he poops, so at that time, sit him on the pot and give him a book to read (or a book with a read-along tape). If he does something, again 3 M&Ms.
It shouldn't take long. Your son is bright enough to figure out what to do for attention and candy.

I do agree, every time you or your spouse goes to the restroom take your child with you. But if you try fun things you child will respond better. Here is a secret my mom taught me. For a little boy, put some cheerios in the toilet, tell him to try and shoot the O's. This makes for a real fun time. Now that is just for urinating. The other is a little different. That is where you would come in by being the mom and needing to sit down. He will pick that up from you. Good luck, I know this will work.

honey, i assume you have a potty chair for him, right? go over the process one more time and then start leaving his diaper off around the house. i mean bare-bottomed! hopefully, he will have too much self-respect to go just anywhere. i did this w/my daughter at 2 and it worked like a charm. when you are out w/him ask if he needs to go potty about every five minutes and if he says "no" and it's been 1/2 an hour say" well, let's go try". be consistent and he'll get the picture

My son too is quite stepped forward for his age so at 18 months (at a advice of a chum) we offered a potty... He at recent knew what it grow to be "potty" he pronounced as he observed the container and as quickly as we've been given it out he peed on the potty for the 1st time!!! Me and my husband have been actually taken aback!!!! We could no longer have faith that easily got here approximately and wanted we've been given it on video!!! yet even although he knew what it grow to be and knew what he grow to be doing in his diaper he nonetheless wasn't waiting to regulate those applications totally... We tried casually for each week after which desperate he wasn't quite waiting and gave it a ruin for a on an identical time as.... At 2 years i attempted back and he wasn't nonetheless quite waiting yet advance!! At 2 years 3 months he awakened 2 nights in a row thoroughly dry and that i knew he grow to be waiting... He grow to be then put in huge bitty underclothes and it began... In each and every week he grow to be totally potty knowledgeable.... Your son may well be waiting yet once you initiate and he shows he's not totally waiting and this is becoming the two a conflict or annoying, decrease back off amd take a ruin... this is extra powerful to start new after some weeks than to make it harder... do no longer use pull united statesa. first as they only confuse them... Use the semi absorbent fabric underclothes... and you're able to devise to be living house for no less than 3 days at recent so he can prepare... Then initiate with little errands at a time to get that prepare as properly... ultimate of success!!!

My suggestion is to make it fun for him. Try this. Put a cheerio, or something that he likes to eat that is round in the toilet. Have him aim for the center. If he makes it give him a reward.. If he keeps going, give him a bigger reward like go to McDonalds, or whatever you prefer. I would start with a reward poster. Put his name on it, and give him a star for every time he needs to go potty. Give him two stars if he has to go poopy. At the end of the week, or the end of the chart, or whatever you want to do, you could do small prizes, or one huge prize like the zoo, or what not. Good luck!
