I think we are exactly where we should not be. I am a retired military officer. I do not believe in "measured responses." After 9/11 I believe we should have completely leveled Afghanistan. If we were still dropping bombs on them today I would not be unhappy.
However, our entry into Iraq was nothing short of criminal. Although I do not at all agree with Suddam Hussein's politics or his tactics I do not believe we had the right to invade his country, have him murdered and plunge his country into a civil war.

I think war in Iraq is going very well.
Us troops are making progress. Definition for progress might change.
Few US troops death compare to 700 000+ Iraqi has been killed and more than 10 million displaced by this war.
US is in control of Iraq OIL looting the Iraqi money as planned.

Removing Saddam was a good thing, but the United States failed to realize its up to the Iraqis to organize their society in some responsible form. They have refused to do this by retaining their petty sectarian attachments that have no place in the modern world. The people of Iraq do not want peace and our troops should leave because we cannot force them to want peace. Our troops are just another target for the Iraqis in their petty sectarian feud.

It needs to stop so that our troops and the iraqi civilians will stop dying. There have been way too many losses over a war that should never have happened in the first place

War always sucks, but it is part of a war that was upon us. Unfortunately, we have been so successful in protecting our freedoms that it is so easy for many of us to criticize 'something that is out there.'

I horrible mistake waged by greedy short-sighted fools who failed to learn from past mistakes, namely Vietnam. This war is and always will be unwinnable and anyone who thinks otherwise is a naive fool.
