My little boy has a soft coat...unlike regular yorkies, it's harder to keep up and he gets matted so easily even if I brush him. How do I get the mats out of his fur without hurting him? I will be getting him cut shorter, but his appointment isn't until July 19.

Kay & Kellyherts...just to clear it up, my yorkie doesn't have a silkie coat it is more fluffy and cottony, it never has been silkie and I brush him pretty much everyday and I also use shampoo recommended by my vet and groomer.

i have a carrin terrier who is like this and i've found the best way to keep him "clean" is to shave his hair pretty short in the summer and in the winter, instead of letting his hair grow long, get it cut again, just not as short. this way there will be less hair and hopefully less matts.

First of all, a "yorkie-poo" is not anything however an overpriced Mutt. I obtained mine for $26 at a town safe haven... now not $six hundred-800. To be optimistic of temperment, apperance, wellness, and so forth. you will have to ALWAYS get a purebred puppy (or spend the cash on saving a existence.) As for measurement, identical factor, you are not able to be SURE what measurement it is going to be until it is purebred, even then it is a gamble however is constantly simpler to bet. As for grooming, the groomers on the PetSmart in which I reside say it is dependent upon the coat. Either approach they're going to have got to be combed (NOT brushed) a minimum of three occasions per week, everyday if you'll be able to. As for the cost of grooming... such a lot groomers will cost the grooming cost relying on what the puppy appears extra like. If it appears extra like a poodle, you can pay poodle cost, extra like a yorkie, you can pay yorkie cost. Also, it is simpler for them to tack on "further clothier puppy" cost raises in view that there's no normal to head with. Again, a Yorki-Poo is an overpriced Mutt as a rule they arrive from garden breeders who care little or no approximately the animals they produce, a few of them strolling dog generators. appear for a well Yorkie breeder, speak to running shoes, vets, house owners, more than a few breeders, and so forth. earlier than you are making your determination.

no offense, but all yorkies have silkie coats. a bath with conditioner - yes even human conditioner - might help. past that, ask your groomer about a comb that when used correctly cuts the hair. some mats are impossible to brush out so all you can do is cut them off, but if you don't want a sharp clear line, use this comb to give it a more natural, layered look. i dont know what it's called but it looks like a flea comb with metal teeth. then you used it quickly, diagonally and it'll sheer the matt off.

Umm, I have a Yorkie-Poo whose coat is fluffy and cotton like. Perhaps you have a mix breed because Yorkies coats are silky. But anyhow for my Cash' coat I spray a little detangler on his brush and brush in an upward motion. I do not spray it directly on him because I do not want the detangler to get onto to his skin.

Try no more tangles spray, it works for my yorkie. And get a very fine tooth brush. With hair like that its best to keep them in a puppy cut.

you can snip a little yourself till the appiontment, because matted fur is so hard to brush when it hurts the dog. try using a softer brush ans do a little at a time!

Pet stores have shampoo and conditioners for long haired pets. Look for a conditioner that has tangle free. You might want to try baby conditioner. It is mild and tangle free.
