Pilsner now just means "in the style of Pilzn" As already stated Pilzn is a town in what was Bohemia, now the Czech Republic. It is a pale light bodied beer fermented at cold temp. There have been attempts to make Pilsen an appellation like champagne to to restrict the use of the name to only beer from Pilzen.
