Does anyone have any best practices, or experience with this? What can I expect?

The cats get along. The dog is good with cats, and only a few pounds heavier than my cats! Any tips would be appreciated, as the dog is arriving this weekend. Thanks.

Have the cats on one side of a closed door and the puggle on the other. Let them get each others scent through the underside of the door. Then if they seem ok or interested get a toy or something that smells like the dogs to the cats to smell. Let them get used to the smell and then introduce them slowly by having the cats see the dog. Don't let the dog charge the cats or it will forever be a battle!

I have a Min pin, and we used to have two cats, that had kittens. My dog loved them, although every dog is different, and sometimes cats seem to be more aggressive towards dogs than dogs to cats. Try to introduce them slowly, and let them build trust.
The dog will probably try to jump on the cat at first being so excited, you might want to put the cat into a crate or something to protect it when you are introducing them, until they get used to each other more.

Cats rule so you will want to be watchful of the dog. Plus the cats are residents and the dog will be seen as an interloper. But if the dog is already used to cats then he/she will likely just ignore them. They, on the other hand, if they haven't had a dog in residence before, are not going to like it. You will likely see them puff themselves up, do the throaty-growly thing, hiss and spit, and it is possible they may even take to perching up high for a while. But give it a couple of days and peace should reign again.
