Do you think you can prove (yourself at least) that God does not exist?
-----------------------
While answer this question please have in mind the following:
------------------------
Let's employ some logic.
During this lifetime there is no way you can search all the little parts of the universe where He can hide, therefore during lifetime can not prove He does not exist.
Now, assuming there is nothing after death: how can you then prove anything? I mean... you will no longer be in existence. So will not be capable of anything.
The only thing that will ever be possible to prove beyond any doubts is that God is real.
I haven't proved here that God is real, I proved here just that only He's existence will ever be possible to prove.

Then why strive to prove He does not exist. Looks to me main reason is hate.

And as I said, I didn't proved here that He exists. But that He has proven to me. Sorry I can't do that to any of you. Thanks all for your answers.

I know all this rets to one thing: you strive in vane to prove He does not exist unlike when searching for Him. That maybe, just maybe you too will come to something.

In fact he hides:
=====================
Isaiah 45:15 (New American Standard Bible)
=====================
"Truly, You are a God who hides Himself,
O God of Israel, Savior!"

It's a problem that I keep running through my head all the time . . . does He or doesn't He? I love the stories I grew up reading about in the Bible, but it's so hard to believe in something that you can't see. Yes, I know there is beauty all around us and that we were created in His image, but I really, really, REALLY want (and need) to see a miracle happen. Without that, I just can't believe or disbelieve in Him any more.

Wow. I NEVER saw it that way. Nor has ANYONE ever brought forth this implacable argument.

Now...

Do you think you can prove (yourself at least) that Wotan does not exist?

Thank you. I have seen the light, and await the eternal feast in Walhalla.

Can I prove that God does not exist? No. Not based on my understanding of the common definition of the word "God."

However, I can't prove that a magically platypus-being with the power to go undetected by any device known to man doesn't exist either.

I have no ability to prove that anything exists, actually. All I can prove to myself are my perceptions, and that's only because I think I perceive things. All my perceptions could be wrong.

If God is an omnipotent being, as the usual definition goes, then think about this - he has the power to both exist and not exist at the same time, and take an infinite number of forms simultaneously, should he choose to do so. If he did not have such power, then he would not be omnipotent.

I can't prove the inexistence of a god, no ... but I also can't prove the existence of gravity.

Logic dictates that something must be preventing us from flying off the surface, but that's it - it doesn't say something below us must be pulling us down. Maybe air weighs more than we imagine and it actually pushes us down?

Likewise, logic also says that things are not concrete without proof; I have never been presented with proof of the existence of a god.

Therefore I assume that just to be safe, you worship Zeus, because you haven't proven that he doesn't exist, also, right?

Boy, you must be really busy with all those gods you worship.

Just FYI, this isn't a question for the strong, either. This is one of the strongest reasons we atheists have for not believing in your god. I'm not surprised you haven't heard it before, though. Most theists tend to know very little about religion.

Edit - and no, the main reason is not hate. The main reason is because we are distrusted and abused by religious leaders every day in this country. If people like Jerry Fallwell had left us well enough alone, you wouldn't be hearing from us. You called down the thunder though, and here we are.

Ohh, such a powerful question. I have never seen that before. (Yawn)

Likewise I can not disprove Santa, unicorns, Zeus, the tooth fairy, Osiris, mermaids, the Easter bunny, Odin or dragons.

However, for some reason I do not see people arguing over whether the tooth fairy should leave $1 or 50 pence. No one flies planes into buildings claiming that the blue eggs of the easter bunny are the only true colour.

No one sends armies to fight over possession of the North Pole so that they can proclaim the real names of the reindeer.

Why is it that all these things are done in the name of god?

Yes, god might be hiding in some forgotten corner of the multiverse. But almost definitely not.

Just as we all would require proof of the existence of unicorns, mermaids or dragons before we thought that they were real you need to provide actual evidence for god before the concept is worth considering.

No one can prove anything doesn't exist. I can ask the very same question you asked and substitute Zeus in place of god. Can you or anyone prove Zeus doesn't exist?

You're just stating a simple fact - no one can prove the non-existence of anything

It is always, always, always the responsibility of the person making the calim to prove something exists, not the person saying it doesn't

The short answer is: I don't need to.

God fails to exist by default.

The theist is the one that makes the extraordinary claim -- that there's an invisible, intangible Sky Daddy that exists outside of time and space and has no measurable or reproducible effect on the universe, but is somehow still responsible for the existence of the universe. It is therefore the theist who bears the burden of proof.

You cannot use any scientific method to prove or disprove the existence of God.

A belief in a God comes from within. You re believe in a God or you do not.

In other words, the thing that really counts is do you need to have something to prove or not? If you do, then assume God exists. If you don't, you don't have to .
