Typically a mall is one large building that has multiple businesses inside that you enter those business from the inside and a mart is usually a "strip" of businesses side by side which you enter the businesses from the outside.

just for fun....
a mall is were you can hang out in and chill out. Buy expensive things that you don't probably need.
a mart is a place that you only go to, because you need something at low price.

I think Malls are usually indoors with higher level stores... marts are a row of storefronts or stands and indicated bargains. That is my take anyway!

A mall implies several stores in one area, a mart is one store.
