First off, I am 16. I want to be a cop when I get older. I've always wanted to be one since I was in 1st grade, and my parents respect my decision. With this, I want to get a pair of handcuffs. I know they come with instructions. So I want to try, practice, and get a head start on other future cops. I wouldn't handcuff anyone against their will or anything like that. My parents said it was okay for me to get a pair of cuffs, but they will not give me their credit card, so ordering online is out of the question. Believe me, I've tried to persuade them to let me order online, but they won't budge. So where can I buy double-locking handcuffs? Keep in mind I am 16, so sex stores are out of the question (and I heard their quality is terrible). Also, I do not want like furry handcuffs or anything like that. Where's somewhere I can go (yes, I can drive) to buy real handcuffs?

Amazing what some people will do for 2 points. Try a flea market.

I am going to give you some good advice that will further your goals and inspirations in place of something that you just might not be ready for. Why don't you look into explorer and apprentice programs from your local PD or sheriff's departments and maybe could get some information from your school counselor. The jump that in this day and age is not the use of the equipment that is associated with that industry but the intelligence to avoid its use. There is lots of time to learn handcuffs and batons and the equipment, a good thing to do would be to start increasing you knowledge about the industry in classroom or independent studies and compliment that with volunteer work in the local departments to learn what being in the enforcement portion of our government is all about and their roles in our society. Now if you understood everything in this response perfectly and are working that direction, maybe you could raise some extra money at odd jobs or ask your parents to allow you to earn extra money and once earned they might be more conducive to helping with your request. Show some iniatiative and you will be suprised at who will help you.

If you really want to get a head start, you should probably start learning Defensive Tactics moves.. handcuffing is only a small part of police work(easy to learn)...Defensive tactics is about control holds, self defense, etc.. Also start exercising...run a lot.. In my academy(in California) on day 1 we had to run 1.5 miles after a hour of high stress exercising..at graduation(22 weeks later) our final exam for PT(physical training) was a 10 mile non stop "pride run."

To answer your question..I'm not sure who would sell you handcuffs without proof of employment. but try Quartermaster.com, Galls.com, GT distributors.com or a local army supply surplus store.

Unfortunately, most of the "on-line" stores normally require a credit card. However, depending on the size of your community, there may be a local supply and distribution office/store that caters to law enforcement or fire fighting equipment.

Another source is Galls Inc., which provide the equipment you seek. I've included their website below.

One important thing to remember...handcuffing has a unique "technique" used when "speed cuffing" a suspect. This is something you will learn in a police academy. Maybe spending that money on books associated with police exams and like would be more helpful.

Best wishes.

I agree with the above post suggesting the Explorer program. I started in the Explorers at age 16 and LOVED it. We did cool stuff like practicing handcuffing techniques, as well as doing mock arrests, vehicle stops, & building searches. The particular post I belonged to also let you do ride-alongs, my FAVE! I've been in law enforcement now for seven years & owe it all to being in the Explorers. Check out their website to look for a post near you. Good Luck!

You will have to get a pre-paid visa or mastercard and buy some online (although the quality may be suspect).

Go online to www.galls.com and click on "request a catalog." When you get the catalog, you can send in an order and send a check or money order with it.
