Not until at least Jan of 2008. Possibly not until June of 2009. Currently all you need is a birth certificate and photo id.

NO !! NO !! NO!!! You do not need a passport if your cruise ship departs from a US port, AND your cruise ends before the end of this year (December 31, 2007). But a passport will be required of all US citizens to reenter the USA starting January 1, 2008. Once you get the passport you will be set for 10 years. The web site below will answer all of your questions about passports. In addition, If you take a cruise this calendar year and for some reason (like you get sick) and have to fly back to the US then you will need a passport.

I don't know what to tell you. Our cruise company said that we did not need one until January 2008. But my husband and I went on a cruise last year to the Bahamas and we needed one then. I don't know what the difference is. Talk with the cruise company and check with a passport agency. They should be able to get you an answer.

I just took a cruise from New York to Florida and the Bahamas on the Norwegian Spirit. I was required to show them my passport at check in, but I just needed to bring my room key and show photo ID whenever I left the ship.
Norwegian Cruise Lines requires that you show both proof of citizenship AND proof of identity. Check your cruise line's requirements for boarding on their website.
In essence they don't need passports to board just proof that they are U.S. citizens.

Make sure you check with your cruiseline.
We did not need passports for our Aug 2006 cruise, BUT we got them anyway. We figured we would not leave the country without an Internationally recognized Identification such as a passport, so we got them asap.

The other answerers are tecnically correct. The law requiring passports for sea travel does not go into effect until next jJn. However, some cruise lines are requiring their passengers to have passports now. It would be wise to call your travel agent ot cruise line now to ask them their requirements.

No. They need birth certificates, IDs, and marriage license. The marriage license is to indicate the name change as your birth certificate would have your maiden name on it, and you need your driver's license as well. Hope this helps. Have fun.
