Yes, you are reading in to this all wrong.
The Bible was created for us to follow as a guide to survival and moral enrichment. It helps us from living in darkness, bitterness, envy and hatred for others. Those are all wasted energy dispositions that will keep us further from peace and acceptance of others who are loving and peaceful. Why would we want to be around anyone who is hateful, bitter, envious or at war with the world? Isn't there too much of that already?
Since the Bible has brought us a moral compass to follow, we are obedient and respectful of its commandments. Murdering and raping are actions of disrespect and hatred.
After reading the Bible and understanding what pleases God and His people, we wouldn't ever want to act out these horrible crimes. We should have learned a good moral basis for life at this point. They are crimes because they, BOTH, violate God's commandments and because they violate the laws of this land. Our laws were Bible based in order to live in a country of moral integrity. Not all of us care about moral integrity, but they do have medications for this type of behavior.
That is the real answer to your question. I am assuming that you really wanted to know and that you were not just looking for trouble. God bless you.

I agree that morals are a product of instinct and societal training and experience. From a purely evolutionary point of view, morals are important only in the sense that we are social animals and a code of conduct is important to the survival of our species. Ape societies also have morals, and retribution.
However, as the only "self-aware" critters on the planet, who have realized that this life is temporary and ultimately meaningless, why do we cling to those morals?
I won't argue that morals wouldn't exist without religion. But you also can't argue that there's any need for morals without religion. If we die and that's it, then there's no reason whatsoever to adhere to any sort of moral code. This life is all you've got, you just as well get what you can out of it.

How do you explain Paris Hilton
For that matter how do you explain a lot Celebs and Sports guys.
Why does someone with a 12 million dollar Football contract have to gamble and place bets. Doesn't he have enough money already!
And while on suspension how is he going to afford to place bets!
The thing of it is, everyone wants to be like them. Party harty, get drunk and drive off in a $100,000 red car. Snort cocaine til you burn a hole in your nose. Have ten paternity suits at the same time. Dirty dance with 15 year olds. Throw guitars through a control room window because you're miffed. Miss concerts because you're too stoned to show up and that destroyes your hot band and carreer AXYL!
These are your moral role models and EVERYONE wants to be THEM
Not Isaac Newton or Linus Paulling nor even Richard Dawkins

Yes, I'm saying you and I were created by God, and that he's instilled in us a sense of right and wrong as part of that creation. And yes, that can also be seen to some extent in the animal kingdom, since God is creator of all things.
Your instinct is God given.
No, I'm not saying right and wrong didn't exist before Moses and the 10 commandments. I'm saying God placed it in mankind from the very beginning.

I have not seen anything to prove to me that there is a god and I was raised Christian. I think the bible is just some book some person with good intentions came up with to give hope to people. Bad thing is it is just a book and like any book can and is always exploited and taken out of context.

Well, yes and no.
The bible says (I'll find it) we are born with a "basic" knowledge of good and evil.
But society can change our basic instincts IE in ancient Greece it was common for people to sacrifice babies, put them in jars, and use these jars in the corner stone of ones house for "good luck". This was accepted by society. It is Evil? Yes, but by who's standard? By education in those days it was moral. Instinct can be changed after much influence by society.
Look at what the Germans did or didn't do to protect the jews in WW2! Society said it was OK to kill and take their things. They later repented.

Yes, I believe you are reading it wrong. It is not the written rules and laws that we get from the Bible. It is the laws "written on our hearts" which God places there in all human beings. We all know deep down what is wrong and what is right in the large sense of things. That knowledge didn't just get there, and it isn't just taught by nurture, it is placed there by God. It's in our genes.

Morals don't just come from a book. They come from a living God. God happened to write the book. But he is alive and real while the book itself is an object. Get it?

Yes, you're reading it wrong. There is just good and bad, people KNOW right from wrong, and just depending on their personality they choose what they do. Christians do wrong everyday, just as anyone else in any other religion.
