I just came up with a new voting system proposal. It consists of the following: voters would receive a ballot with the list of all the runoffs. A voter then must vote for 1 candidate in each runoff. Third party and major party voters would be treated the same since they both have to vote strategically in runoffs where a candidate from either a third party or major party isn't there. The winner would be the candidate that either wins every runoff or the one with the most points. Allocating points could be 3 points for a runoff victory and 1 for a runoff tie (just like in soccer). Should there be a tie between 2 candidates, the result of the runoff is considered. If the runoff was a tie, a ballot will be chosen at random to determine the winner. What do you guys think?

Voting must be made on the specific candidate. The runoff election must only be made if there is a tie.

I am not sure I understand the point of your system. What is you objective????

What you are suggesting sounds very much like instant runoff voting which is being advocated for on a national basis and has actually been adopted for local elections in some communities.

The objective of instant runoff voting is to increase the possibility of minor parties receiving votes. This method encourages new issues, and makes the major parties more responsive to the general public.

It should be noted also that individuals can run (with no party affiliation). There can be several candidates for the same office, with many different party affiliations (or non-affiliations).

Increased diversity of opinion means that the candidate elected will more accurately reflect the opinions of the general public.

If I understand you correctly you're talking about an automatic runoff system. Personally, I think voters must be retarded. Why would you fail to get a receipt to be able to independently verify how your vote(s) were counted when you get a receipt for buying a pack of gum?

A little tto complicated. I think that it should stay the same with the parties and such, but get rid of the electoral college and have our president elected by the people, just like all our other elected government officials are.

People can't even figure out how to punch a hole next to a name how can you expect people to figure this out?

Want better candidates we need a better electorate, how about in order to register to vote you need to pass the same test as those wanting to become a US Citizen. Lets see how many people know basic American History and who their elected officials are.
