Ok, Benoit killing his family once again brings me back to this topic of death, the topic I cannot escape. My best friend, 25 years old and the mother of a 4-month old, got killed in a car wreck in January. People die all the time for senseless reasons. What happens after we die? I believe in God and Heaven. But do we go there as soon as we die, or do we wait until God resurrects everyone at once? I have read lots of conflicting opinions on this topic. Also, when we are in the afterlife, are we aware of the goings-on still on Earth? Do we even give a f***?

The only thing we know for sure is that everyone who is born will die.

No living human can give a sure answer to your question. Those who say that they know for sure are mistaken. Biblical quotes will not help you here. Divinity cannot be understood by humanity. The gap is too great. (This is why the disciples had problems understanding Christ). All we can hope for is comfort.

What happens before we are born? When exactly does the spirit join the body? When does it leave? These are part of the awe and mystery of being a human. Until our life is over, we do not know.

What is senseless to us may not be without reason, but our ability to reason is very limited (heck, some people cannot even balance a checkbook). Questions to ponder in life all start with the word WHY. The full and complete answers to these questions is not really within our grasp. The best we can do is cope.

Some feel comfortable in their own version of "I am saved and will go to God" but we are all warmed about the arrogance of pretending to know the Will of our Maker. How each of us might be judged is not up to us or how much scripture we quote.

We can only know the meaning of our life when it is complete. To those who do not believe in an afterlife, they scoff at such talk. To those who do their best to follow as righteous a path as any human can follow, a different concept may come to mind.

Do not worry about what has not happen yet to you. Do not dwell in guilt of past mistakes or faults (yours or other's). Give thanks for the current moment you live in. It is a gift. Feel the joy of being human. Care now. Do not worry if you will care later.

I have been going through the same cycle after I lost my best friend a few weeks ago. What happens after we die? I cannot claim to have any solid religious beliefs because the world is full of different beliefs and everyone lays a claim that their own view is right. I cannot say that the Christians are right over the Buddhists, the Muslims, the Hindus and all the other beliefs that have been formed and valued by millions of people.

Because my mind is an open book, I believe this can go a few ways ... I do believe that when we die we are brought to a place that is actually our eternal home, which we are free to come and go from, and it is a place that cannot exist on this plane (or dimension) of Earth because it exists on a higher vibrational frequency and also it is full of positive (no negative) energy. The negativity in our world cannot exist on the other side. I believe that it is our bodies that limit us and keep us here. Upon dying, our essence, soul, energy, are free from the body that keeps us on this side and we are able to cross over. I tend to believe this because of the scientific claim that energy is something that cannot be destroyed but only changed. And by default, we are, in essence, an energy.

I think that people in the after life can very easily be in touch with us on this side. I do not think they can relate to our experience of grief, tragedy, and negativity.

As far as the doctrine of religious beliefs, I actually do not buy into that as much. I do believe there is a Jesus who did exist and is the son of God and had a major purpose to teach us many tools for life. I also believe that if someone does not know Jesus or has not been able to identify with Jesus and the Christian view, it is not going to be a damnation to hell. I also believe that humanity & its imperfections have created different versions of history to try to control others. For this reason, I do not buy into the idea that we are resurrected at the same time. I tend to go with the most simple, or most logical explanation that science cannot deny is a possibility.

But that's just me and not necessarily the reality of what happens. I would give anything to talk to, see, or touch my best friend. I haven't been able to do this. I wish I could, just stroking her hair one time. Or feeling her. I would love it. Sometimes I wonder if she's behind me saying "I am right here"... and I hope more than anything that there is this other side because the most important thing in the world for me is that my best friend is happy wherever she may be.

All you can get is opinions nobody knows.

Valhalla and Hades are equally valid propositions.

All afterlife myths have no evidence for them. What justifies these extraordinary claims?

When you die you cease to exist. The chemical, electrical and physiological activity in your brain that gave that brain the ability of cognitive thought stops. This is what can be clearly observed and is logical.

I'm sorry but that is how it is. Eternal life after death is a lovely idea, but then so is Santa and fairies. Being a nice warm fuzzy idea does not make it real.

Enjoy your life. Make others' lives better. Do it today, for tommorw we may die.

Whoever says you cannot know death until you face it is right. I have also been wondering about death throughout my life cause I had to deal with my father's suicide from a very young age. To be fair and objective, i think we all should all just stick to the idea of the afterlife we "know" and live happy lives. I think everyone is going "to go" wherever they assumed they were going to go while they were alive. If you think you are going to a golden paradise, that will probably be your next stop, if i think i am going to turn into a honeybee and jump on roses then that's the "afterlife" i'm going to deal with, even if it will all be a spiritual illusion or some sort of spiritual hologram.

I know this isn't quite what you were asking but stop focusing on death. It's easy to get stuck thinking about it.

My ex-husband reconstructs severe and fatality traffic crashes and has done so for 27 years. He has seen how senseless crashes are. People don't realize that it just takes a moment. I worked with him for about 10 years on the job. Is first experiences were because he did the same job for a police department so as he said he learned in the mud and the blood. Seeing what he saw he had to learn how to turn it off. Not as easy sounding I know. When you focus on it, it makes you become thinking about death instead of life. Before you know years will pass you and you will have missed them.

Now to tell you what I believe about death. I believe that some of us may hang around because we want to check on things and are reluctant to leave. Then there are those who leave immediately because they are ready to go. So I think it's up to us to go immediately or hang around.

When my Granny died I didn't feel her around at all. I knew that she had been waiting to be reunited with her husband who had passed back in 1960. She did come back and check on us but it was probably a few months.

First if a person confesses Romans 10:9 then they are saved and have eternal life. The saved person if they die before the return of Jesus Christ in 1st Thessalonians 4:13-18 then they will be unconscious at the moment of death and awaiting the return of Jesus Christ.
The Unsaved will be judged and then will cease to exist plain and simple.
There is a book entitled "Are the Dead Alive Now?" by Victor Paul Wierwille which goes into all this in depth. Maybe you could get it from the The Way International Bookstore or get a local bookstore to order it from the American Christian Press in New Knoxville ,Ohio.

Death is part of our life just like birth.. growing up.. getting old… etc, for many people death is considered the end for us, they are right to think that way because that put them at ease as far as the deceased one.
when we die life stops as we know it but it doesn't end there, when we die only our body dies but not our soul, as an example on that is when you pass out or when you are going out from anaesthetic effect, you feel and hear everything around you but you can't move.
Death is a permanent anaesthetic.
That's when religion comes into play, they say if you were good on earth your burial place will be as a waiting place for your final destiny which is Hell or Heaven, if it’s heaven you will feel great in your burial and you can’t wait for the day of judgment to come so you can collect your prize and go to heaven and meet with your friends and family members that were good on earth too, and if Hell is your destiny well. it’ll be a painful waiting shocking room and you will ask god to delay the day of judgement as long as possible to not get punished and go to Satan’s place.

I isn't enough to 'believe in God and heaven'; 'the devils also believe, and tremble. (James 2:19, KJV)'. It therefore follows you must ACT on that belief, and take Jesus Christ as your God, Lord and Saviour.

As for what hapens after death, well the Bible tells us we Christians are 'absent from the body and present with the Lord (2 Cor 5:8, KJV)'. Also, there is the story of the rich man and Lazarus, which is not a parable (it is not described as a parable, and it also gives a name, which no parable does), reveals there is consciousness after death: the unsaved man goes to torment, and the saved man went to be with Abraham (Luke 16:19-31).
Te unsaved man DEFINITELY doesn't want his loved ones to be where he is, and so is desperate to inform them about it. But even Lazarus is not allowed to return to warn them: they are to obey the Law and the prophets (all of which point to Christ). There is also a barb which shows they won't believe even after a man is raised from the dead; a direct hint, and a prophecy, that the Pharisees and Saducees wouldn't believe even after Jesus' resurrection: they rather believed the story they themselves circulated, that the disciples stole His body.

Will we CARE about the events on earth? Don't know, but as we'll share Christ's concerns, I should expect so. Knowing His mind and deeds are perfect, however, we won't WORRY about them.
Hope this helps: may God bless you as you search for Him.

My belief is that we all await the ressurection at His coming.

However as some people have said thats not really what is important. What is important is that you be ready for your day of judgement. Whether that is at the moment of death or when he returns be it one day or ten thousand years we all need to live our life as if the next moment we will be dead. After you die your done, there are no redo's, there is no whoopsies let me make that right, We should be concentrating on living a life in accordance with the principles of God in Yahshua Messiah so that when the ressurection comes our name will be written in the book of life and he will welcome you with open arms and say "well done good and faithful servant".

1 Corinthians 15:53 tells us that our souls go back to the Father that gave them. and our bodies return to the dust from which they are made. If you are saved when you die, your soul go directly to be wtih the Lord, if not directly to hell to await judgment. I think we are aware of what is going on down here on earth, but not concerned.

Remember the story of Lazarus and the rich man. The rich man lifted up his eyes in hell and begged God to send someone to warn his brothers not to come to that place..
