I had this happen at about 60000 miles that the mechanic says is just a built in reminder. I don't want to fret over nothing.

You didn't mention what year it was, but this was a reminder on some vehicles that had to be reset. I would take it to a auto parts place such as Autozone where they can plug a computer into it and see if you aren't having an emissions part problem such as an oxygen sensor. Usually, a mechanic shop will run diagnostics on your truck for around $35.00. You will be sure to know what you need to do for little or no money.

My '87 had a light that came on every 50,000 miles to remind you to check all the emissions minders. The nine volt battery in the module lasted 10 years.
There are certain things that are done on a mileage basis and many vehicles light the service reminder light to tell you service is due. It has nothing to do with the malfunction indicator light, which will come on any time there is a malfunction. Consult your owner's manual to see what service is due at 82,500 miles.
