Go to any AutoZone or Advanced auto parts store, get a few cans of freon ($5-6 bux a can) and ask for the hose kit to pump it in. You attach the hose to the LOW side of the compressor, and just open the valve on the can.
Read the directions on the can. don't shake it or anything.
Make sure the car is running, and you have the AC on full blast. One can might do the trick. Don't worry, if you have a slow leak, over filling will not hurt anything, it just won't cool as well. It's best to have a thermometer in the vents and watch it as you add freon. (have someone watch it)
when it peaks (somewhere around 35°) then shut the valve on the can off.
Good luck

Go to an auto parts store and buy a freon refilling kit. It will have a gauge and a hose with fittings on it, and a tank of freon. Your system should use the R134A freon. Make sure this is the one that you get.
You hook it to the low pressure side of the AC line, and start the engine, turn the AC on and open the valve and add enough to get the gauge in the green area. Then it should work. good luck.

A 2000 auto should not be using freon.
The new refrigerant is required. Damn, the name, the name?
It's called an "Environmental" issue.
Actually, the patent on freon ran out for DuPont and they succeeded in banning freon so that they could hold the patent on the new stuff. Not any better than freon. May be worse for the environment.
One can still buy freon in Mexico.
Replacement needs to be done by professionals.

you can buy one of those kits they mentioned before, the low pressure side to charge the system is another matter, standing in front of the car to the left upper corner in the engine compartment you,ll find the two lines connected to the evaporator, follow the thicker one and you'll find the port to charge the system about two feet from the evaporator, the system takes 1.6# of refrigerant 134 if you go over or lower by 2 ounces it won't cool, my advise?? replace the evaporator ( the most likely culprit, is leaking) for about
$600, in most placed they do it for 60-80$ (charge the system) do not pay 200 dollars for just charge the system that is a rip off

Unless you are a trained mechanic with the proper tools and attachments, it is not worth the trouble and the risk. This is not a simple procedure and needs to be done with proper safety equipment, because of burn risks, etc. Take my advice and take it to a garage and let them do it. The money and the possible injuries will be worth what it costs.
