If you think so, can you provide hard scriptural evidence?...Joice Meyers teaches this...does that make her a false prophet?.....

Jesus went to the same place Jesus described in Luke 16:19-31 as Abraham's bossom.

Jesus did not go there to suffer.

Ephesians four tell us:

8Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.

9(Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?

10He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)

I hope that helps.

I was under the impression that he went to "paradise" or "spirit prison" or what ever you you would call a waiting or holding place, where spirits are to await for the resurrection and final judgment, for the three days in question. I don't see how it could correctly be referred to as Hell before the resurrection and final judgment, unless your calling anyplace away form the Father Hell.

As for the amount of time between his death and resurrection, the Jewish people had some floating Sabbath days, it is possible and likely that a floating Sabbath was lined up to provide 2 Sabbaths in one week end, thus allowing for a full 3 days between his death and resurrection.

I inserted a link to the web site of the LDS church, as this is the doctrine they teach and have more information available their. (aside from my contention about the double Sabbaths, they do not take a stand on that one, it is more of my own thoughts and studies.)

1Peter 3:18-19 speaks of the time Jesus was in the grave. Since Hell as of now is a "spirit prison" of sorts, when He died, He descended there and preached the victory over death, Hell and the grave before He was resurrected. The Scripture also says, "O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?" He's trying to tell us that though we may die, we won't STAY dead if we're redeemed by the blood! However, if we're NOT redeemed when we die, once we arise to our judgment, we'll DIE AGAIN in Hell! This is why the Scripture calls Hell in the book or Revelation the "SECOND death". Joyce Meyer is very accurate in her studies on this subject!

I have been searching for over an hour for this particular passage in the Bible, but sadly I cannot find it (typical) I KNOW I heard a sermon on this, Jesus was in Hell for at least a time after His death. What He did there was to fight with the devil for the keys to death hell and the grave. He won and Satan was cast in and locked up. Jesus then took all the repentant souls with Him to Heaven and ( I do not think he entered Heaven, but led them to the gates) He then returned to Earth so that the prophesy could be fulfilled. He is now in charge of death, or at least God is.

I wish I could find this passage for you. If I do, I will email it to you.

Mkemke is absolutely right. Sheol in other translations - look at the original Greek for that. The bible does not support the belief of a fiery torment.

Eph4:8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
Col 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
1Pe 3:19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
These are the scriptures supporting this.

No.. At this time there was paradise and hell. Divided into compartments, and divided by a big gulf.

Remember when the rich man lifted up his eyes and saw across the gulf Lazarus in the bosom of Abraham..They were in paradise. When old testament saints died they either went to paradise to rest and wait or to hell if not saved.
when christ died, he went to paradise and preached to them three days and when he came out of there , he brought the firstfruits with him, the old testament saints... And they went to Heaven. Hell is still where it has been.

I've heard this too and have wondered about it. The teaching that I heard was that Jesus descended to Hell for three days and took the keys of Hades, conquering death, but I have never come across any scripture that makes this claim. But where was he for three days?

Act 2:31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

Although the correct translation is hades. The word "Hades" refers to the realm of the dead, a temporary place where they await the resurrection.

NIV - "Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to the grave, nor did his body see decay."

Clearly Hades, where people die, are in a grave not in the illustration of Gahanna or fiery hell.

No, it say that He stud three days in the heart of the earth. By that people understood that He stayed in hell because they thought hell is in the heart of the earth.
But Bible's intention was to say that He stayed under surface of the earth for three days like in a cage. In other parts of the Bible that is detailed explained.
