It is a normal file and can be deleted. A contiguous file is simply a file that is not fragmented.

Definition of: contiguous file

A file on disk that is not broken apart. All sectors are adjacent to each other. A contiguous file is faster to read and write than one that is fragmented across the disk.

First, a definition of "contiguous" - touching or connected throughout in an unbroken sequence.

You aren't trying to delete these rather you are trying to put your files into a contiguous state by using a defragmentation tool. Check out the second link below on defragmentation to better understand why you want your files to be contiguous.
