Mormon proselyting missionaries (the sets of two young men or women who go around knocking on doors) do not get married prior to their missions (I've heard young men and women actually cannot go on a proselyting Mormon mission if they have already been married). A married couple, after they have retired from secular work, can go on a service mission (humanitarian, Church history, etc.) or serve as mission president and companion.
Temple marriage is considered a part of eternal salvation (though, unlike what imasis2 is trying to imply, it's essential for men as well as women, and if a married man fails to be obedient to God's commandments, he will loose out on all blessings, including those which come with temple marriage). It is referred to in the Doctrine and Covenants, Section 132:1-6 (Doctrine and Covenants is one of four sets of Mormon Scripture, along with the Bible, Book of Mormon, and Pearl of Great Price; see the link at the bottom for the specific section of which I referred to). The subject of eternal marriage is also referred to in Matthew 22:23-33 (a Sadducees asks the Lord which of 7 brothers would have a woman after the ressurection they had all married while in mortality, a silly question to ask if marriage ended at death).
There are exception to this, like if a person dies before having the opportunity to get married (like if they die while on their mission, or if they're too young to be married - no one expects a 12 year old to be married, after all! God will judge them on whether or not they would have followed such commandment if they'd been given the chance in mortality), in which case they will have the opportunity to fufill such things during the Millennium.

Actually Mormon missionaries are single for the most part. :-) Also, there is no rush to get marriage that I'm aware of to avoid missions or war. Where did you get that info?
Marriage does play a part in our eternal progression. Families are an integral part of God's plan, as should be obvious from the fact that the basic family structure has been around since Adam and Eve. But even more than that, we believe that marriages can be for time and all eternity, not just "until death do you part". This means that we can be with our families forever, and it is a great blessing that brings alot of joy to me.

Mormon young men and women cannot be married when they go on their missions. Once upon a time in the early days of the church, they could be married and have children, but that all changed. Now older married couples can go on missions, but they typically don't go door to door like the young people do.

To receive all the blessings that God has in store for us, we must be married and sealed in the temple (both men and women) However not all get this chance in this life. We believe in a loving Heavenly Father and that all things will be taken care of in the after-life. If a person never got that chance in this life, like an 11 year old boy or girl, they will get that chance in the after-life.
Actually, the young men and women that serve missions aren't allowed to be married. They have to be single. If they are married then their first responsability is to their family. After their children are taken care of, then they can serve missions.

No one goes on a mission AFTER getting married. Unless they are beyond child-bearing years. And for young men, it is better for them to go on a mission BEFORE getting married.

Maybe the following will help explain things -

According to Mormon doctrine you can only make it to the highest level of the Celestial Kingdom if you've been married in the temple. Whether or not they still adhere to this is another matter.

ex-mormon. For women, they must be called by their husband, by their new name and must be marriade, besides several other things on the long list in the evolution in becoming or evolving into a God. For men the must help people to become mormons, because they do not believe that leading by example, or prayer alone or just talking to people is enough to convert them to the church.
They must fulfill a missions trip., like some men in some countries must serve in the military for two years.

Marriage is part of the new and everlasting covenant. In order to obtain all the blessing Father has, we must enter into it.
