Are you kidding? Back then they equated atheism with communism. That was the era of McCarthyism.

There are more atheist today in the US because of the religions got too heavy, just look around you and you will find some

What's funny is, I've actually seen a few people answer jokingly on previous questions that Eddie Haskell was an atheist.

My parents made me watch the Beav.

Much less acceptable in the 50's. We've always been around but are more "out" there.
