My boyfriend and I moved into a condo in February. The day we moved in, I started feeling sick. By the end of the first week, I was extremely fatigued and having spells where it felt like my throat was closing up. I went to several doctors who diagnosed me with various bizarre things before deciding I had allergies. They gave me an allergy med and told me a bunch of foods that I should cut out of my diet because I tested as slightly allergic to them. So, now, I feel mostly okay, but I'm not allowed to eat soy, wheat, milk, peanuts, or corn. Because I can't eat anything, I'm reaching an ungodly level of thinness and I keep getting hemorrhoids. Our condo is really nice, but I really think I was happier when we lived in a shithole. Has anyone ever had a problem like this from moving into a new place? Did it go away in time? Should we move?

If it's an old condo, there's probably mold behind the paint. Get out of there, fast. It's a shame to have spent so much time and money, but your health is being compromised. There may also be something in the neighborhood that is unhealthy. Whatever it is, please get out of there!

If this is a brand new place a thorough airing it will help and the off-gassing from paints and adhesives will lessen over time anyway.
The same thing would be true of new carpets and to some extent furniture.
The most likely other possibility is mold which would most likely be the result of water leaks.
You might try a HEPA air filter unit in the bed room

"Sick building syndrome". You may be sensitive to something in the condominum. Materials used in construction, paneling, insulation, roofing materials such as asphalt, paint, mold, mildew, new furnishings, new flooring including carpeting, can emit fumes your sensitive system finds toxic. This is not psychomatic and it may never go away. I have the same problem! What makes me ill? Pressed-wood furniture; rubber tires; waterproofing spray; new carpet... You may have to consider leaving your condominium. Your body, with these symptoms, is telling you "something's making me sick!"

Literature on this may be difficult to find. Try http://architecture.about.com/cs/buildyourhouse/a/sickhouse.htm. Also look up "sick building syndrome"; there are many good articles on this on the Internet. I wish you the best!

For the moment, I agree...Move out. There are better places. Whatever the reason is, it sure sounds like the house.

However, before you make that decision,..you might wanna consider staying for a while elsewhere...maybe with relatives? Maybe it's really because of food related allergies...

I think you should get out of their. Maybe its not the condo itself. Their probulary something inside the house, for ex. dust, pollen, paint...etc, thats making you sick. You should go back to your old house and start investing in a new house(their so expensive...), or maybe an apartment or townhouse. Cheers! and i hope you get better!
