Since I know many very kind atheists, it's obviously not "the love of Jesus." I can only claim to be MOSTLY kind. Empathy can be in a person's nature, or it can be developed through experience.
I do believe there are many individuals who are incapable, perhaps even physically, of developing empathy. The latest research into "mirror neurons" seems to point in that direction. It would seem some of humans don't have the requisite neural structures. I'm beginning to wonder if this inherent un-empathic characteristic is responsible for certain political tendencies.

I don't know that we can be kind all the time. I try to be, but do get angered when people blatantly defile the name of God or anyone that is trying to live a Christ-like life.
Even Jesus was angered when he saw his Father's House being defiled by peddlers and money-changers on the steps of the Temple of God.
When I am kind, I attribute it to the love that Jesus placed in my heart.

HAVING RESPECT,compassion, knowing the fact that "WE ARE ALL IMPERFFECT helps to remind me & having accurate scriptural knowlege & sharing in the knowledge that this lowly livelyhood will come to an end someday !! & no I do'nt just mean at death !!& hear's something that I cannot understand why many just wo'nt except as being fact.."Knowing that I WILL BE RISEN AGAIN to stand before the appointed King Jesus Christ is another reason to try & practice loving~kindness with all !!"It's then when out hearts will be read also!!

I'm not a kind person at all times but I strive to be. I read books about Mother Teresa, and Ghandi who seemed never to jugde and always show love to everyone around them no matter the circumstances. That is what challenges me to be kind all of the time.

Peace in the knowledge I've been saved through the blood of Jesus Christ.
No one is kind a 100% of the time; we're sinners and occasionally lose sight of God's Truth.

Yes, even if that person is not being very nice. I attribute it to the love of Jesus and my efforts to bring forth good fruit.

Evolution, My Parents, My understanding that people are products of their genetics and their environment and really people cannot help how they are. Once you understand free will is an illusion you realize that blaming people for their defects is unproductive. That is not to say we don't try to reeducate them but kindness comes with understanding. Part of learning not to blame others is also not blaming ourselves.

my belief and moral structure (which i didn't get from going to church) its what i know in my heart and soul. no one can be kind all of the time, people just have different fuses and often someone who seems kind all the time has a very long fuse.

Empathy. I've been both kind and unkind and have been treated both ways. While it seems reasonable to be unkind in order to get what you want, I've found that being kind works better and makes all involved happier.

my morals, and NO ONE is kind all the time. Even the kindest and gentlest person can hate and rage inside. only a hypocrite tries to put on a that persona...
