An atheist can easily have a Christian Friend...but I think Christians will have a harder time accepting the fact that their friend "is going to hell" and might eventually cause a break in the friendship if he pushes his religion to the Atheist friend too hard.

Sure can, and if they are, each often finds that they have more in common when it comes to matters of the supernatural then they thought. The believer has doubts sometimes; and the atheist sometimes sees unexplained "evidence" out of the corner of his eye. I count 2 atheists as close friends, and they count me as their close friend.
The problem comes up when either believer or atheist insists on agreement with his/her view as a condition of friendship (which is to say, "trust). But that's no different than the problem that comes up between two believers, one of whom is a right-to-lifer and the other of whom is a "freedom of choice" person. Go figure.

I'm a Christian. I have three best friends. One of them is a Muslim, one is a Christian, and one is an Atheist. So yes. They can be. I'm proof!

As long as neither is a fundie seeing a need to convert all heathen heretics or all misguided fairytale-lovers respectively.
Open-minded individuals of any faith (or lack thereof) can be best friends, closed-minded individuals might not even be able to if they're supposedly of the same faith.
Oh, and unlike what so many others seem to believe, the openen-minded fellows can even discuss religion and come to an understanding of why each of them made their respective choices. Believe you me.

I believe so as long as neither of them tries to influence the beliefs of the other. They would also have to have similar interests. There are good people who are atheists just like there are good people that are Christian. Good people should be able to get along.

Being an atheist and a chrisitian is just a matter of one's religious beliefs. Religion should not get in the way of true friendship. My family has not let religious beliefs get in the way. My family practices the Jewish religion, but I am a christian and my boyfriend is catholic. We all get along just fine.

it depends on the atheist & the christian. some atheists without morals could think a christian is too stupid or gullible because of their beliefs...and some christians are a bit hyprocritical in their judgements and look down on the atheist.
