To increase your max that amount will likely take at least 1 year. I'm not sure how old you are, but most people not using steriods don't see a huge increase like that in any short period of time. If you've been lifting for awhile it may take even longer to reach that goal. Your best bet is to do 6 weeks of hard heavy weights, then follow with 2 weeks of 15 rep sets for endurance and so your muscles don't become stagnant. You will need to eat plenty of protein and a good workout partner to spot you and push you on.

You may never be able to lift that much depending on the amount of dedication it would take. If you play football it would be more important to spend that time concentrating on your large muscle groups - legs and back. It's about inertia. If you weigh 120 pounds but you have huge triceps and pecs you are going to be able to push yourself away from something or someone real well. If you weigh 200 lbs then you have a chance of moving them. Understand?

How much you can bench press depends a lot on physics. It's about force and levers. You could be exactly the same size as someone else and your pecs and triceps could exert exactly the same force but one of you may be able to lift 20 lbs more than the other depending on where your tendons connect to the bones. That's where the physics comes in. If your tendons connect slightly closer to the joint your muscle will have exert more force to lift the same weight as he does because you don't have the leverage. You will have to work longer and harder to build up that muscle than he does to lift the same weight.

From the way you worded your question I don't know if you mean you can lift 165 pounds 4-5 times or 185 4-5 times. You should be working out with at least 60 to 70 % of your max if you are doing 6 sets of 5 reps each. If you can lift 185 4-5 times then your max is higher. Anyway, how long it takes to get to 245 will depend on your age. If you are in your teens you can probably reach your goal in less time than if you are in you twentys. If you work hard, eat right and get adequate rest you could reach that goal in about 30 weeks. Less if you have a growth spurt (assuming you are a teenager) There is also the possibility that you'll never reach it if your genetic makeup requires ymore time and effort than you are ready, willing, and too wise to spend.

From your question I can't discern whether you can bench 165lbs. for 4-5 reps or 185lbs for 4-5 reps.
If it is the latter, you are closer than you realize to a 245lb. bench, as a maximum with any exercise is how much weight you can lift for ONE rep. So, if you can bench 185lbs. for 4-5 reps you can probably bench 200 to 205 for one rep.
Try to add at least 5lbs. to 10lbs. every month for a maximum. Don't try to max out more than once a month as you will risk injury or you will burn out.

My max when I first started working out regularly last April was 185. When I maxed out this April it was 230. I wasn't really trying to increase that much, just trying to get in shape. So if you push yourself you could get to 245 in a year or less.
