What do you think it would be like? What kind of rules would it include? What do you think would be important to make clear *now*?

How do you think it would be presented to the people of the world? In one language? Many languages? One format? Or many different formats to fit the many different cultures of the world? Do you think the ideas presented for each different culture would be the same? Or would they be written to fit to each culture?

Would it be presented as a divinely inspired book that was written by people? Or, as some kind of a miracle that just showed up on everyone's doorstep all at once?

Hardcover book? Paperback? E-book?

The holy books that currently exist in the world are all hopelessly outdated, written for cultures and peoples that no longer exist, who lived in physical surroundings and conditions that have long since been changed through modernization and science. You'd think that God would want to update his message so that we could use it now.

I'm amazed. You're actually quite right. In fact, God has written a new holy book for the people in the world of today. Some of the teachings include: the oneness of God, the need for a world federal government, the equality of men and women, the abolition of all prejudices, the abolition of the extremes of wealth and poverty, the need for an international auxiliary language, the essential harmony that must exist between science and religion, the fundamental oneness of all religions, etc. etc. You will find each of these in the holy Writings of Baha'u'llah, who is the Messenger of God for this day and age.

See: http://bahai.org/

His Writings were originally written in Persian and Arabic, but have since been translated into hundreds of languages and are available on the internet to read online, and in word and pdf format. You will find all of those available in English, here: http://reference.bahai.org/en/

You asked whether it would be presented as a divinely inspired book that was written by people or some kind of miracle. Well, it is kind of both. Baha'u'llah didn't "write" His Writings in the common sense of the word. They were "revealed". Baha'u'llah usually revealed them in the following manner: He would chant the Word of God at an extraordinarily fast speed, without any forethought or the least effort in composition. They simply flowed through His person. In that sense, they are not His Writings at all, but are the Word of God spoken through a human agency. The secretary then wrote them down incredibly quickly, using his own method of shorthand. The written version would be checked by Baha'u'llah to make sure His secretary hadn't made any mistakes and then written down in a normal handwriting. This would then be copied and distributed.

God has given a message that is suitable for this day and age, and it is found in the Writings of Baha'u'llah.

Interesting question, but what you're looking for is already here. It comes to us through what is called the office of the Holy See (i.e. the office of the pope). The apostle Peter was the first pope, and he has handed down this power in an unbroken line throughought the ages. Check out Mathew 16 16:19. By these verses (amongst many other things), we Catholics believe that the pope is infallible, meaning that, when he teaches on mater of faith and morals he is protected from error. That's how we know what to do when new issues come up. (send me an email if you have questions). The popes write things called encyclicals. These encyclicals are documents that help us to understand how the teachings of Jesus apply to different issues today.

That being said, I would not be so quick to dismiss the bible. The bible would not seem outdated if you truly understood it.

The major theme of the Bible is in no way outdated. Repent and come homeor continue in rebellion and suffer the consequences. THe ethical and moral questions do not change either, it is always wrong to murder, homosexuality is always wrong, adultery is wrong. The Bible is remarkably clear for a book written by over the course of 2500 years with the last being almost 2000 years ago. Maybe because it was divinely inspired? People just have to actually read it and do what it says.

The Bible is NOT hopelessly outdated. The nature of the book shows it truly is inspired by God Himself. It speaks of human nature, which has not changed, and mankind's spiritual need, which also has not changed. The wisdom and information regarding God and this life has not changed.
Societies come and go, cultures also, the world has changed, but some things have definitely not changed.
And God has not changed. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
The message is the same, and has no need to be updated.

Perhaps you have noticed that many books offering advice become outdated in just a few years. What about the Bible? It is very old, and almost 2,000 years have passed since its last words have been put down in writing. Some therefore feel that that it isnotapplicable to our modern age. But if the Bible is inspired of God, it's advice should always be "beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting thiongs straight, for disciplining in righteousness, that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equiped for every good work."(2Timothy3:16,17). Close examination reveals that Bible principals apply as much today as they did when they were first put down in writing. When it comes to human nature, for instance, the Bible reflects keen understanding that applies to every generation of mankind. We can easily see this in Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, found in the book of Matthew, chapters5 to 7. This seermon so impressed the late Indian leader Mohandas K Ghandi that he reportedly told a British official:"When your country and mine shall get together on the teachings laid down by Christ in the Sermon on the Mount, we shall have solved the problems not only of our countries but those of the whole world."
No wonder people are impressed by Jesus' teachings! In the Sermon on the Mount, he showed us the way to true happiness. He explained how to settle disputes. Jesus provided instruction on how to pray. He pointed out the wisest attitude to have toward material needs and gave the Golden rule for prationships with others. How to detect religious frauds and how to have a secure future overed in this sermon. There is no need to update the Bible for it is up to date and we can use it now just as people were able to use it in the past.

Well, for beginners, I think it would have, on the cover, in very large letters, the words
~~~~~~~~~~DO NOT PANIC~~~~~~~~~~
The history would remain unchanged. History happened. But maybe God would include something about how His church split itself up over human things, like power, and money, and prestige. We could use the reprimand, if we would only listen.
I think the original rules were good. "Love one another as I have loved you" can't be improved upon. Jesus made it clear that the world would recognize His disciples by their love. I can't see that ever changing.
The people that God inspired would, of course, write in their own language. But God has never had a problem about translating His message so that everyone who is interested might read it. The important ideas that Jesus taught transend such barriers as culture and language. His teachings are valid for everyone, no matter what language they speak or what sort of culture they live in.
God is, of course, capable of creating a miracle that just shows up on your doorstep all at once, but He has always preferred to inspire people with His message to the world. He has never changed His method. He even took on human flesh Himself, to bring His message to us in a way we could accept and understand.
Hardcover, paperback, Ebook, or any other form that people would read and use would be just fine.
God's message is simple and timeless. Love doesn't need special technology or any modern trappings. And that is what God's message is all about. Love. It is really that simple. Treat one another the way you want to be treated. Just as important whether you live in a nomadic shepherd's hut or in a modern sky rise apartment building. Just as valid for a people riding around in rocket ships as for people riding on donkeys. Love needs no updating.
Just love one another as Jesus loves you.
That's really all there is to it!
He can't "write another holy book"...He IS the Holy Book and He dwelt among us, died at the hand of His own creation and rose from the dead so you could live forever with Him.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it." (John 1:1-5)
I think the books on spiritual teachings are still very relevant today. The basic message in all of them seems to be peace and love to mankind. It worked for Ghandi, Mother Teresa, and Martin Luther King Jr, so why shouldn't it work for us. This message will never be outdated.
The Prophets and Saints today are the authors of the Book of Life or the continuation of the Bible. One one hand, there are many false prophets today that the natural men can not recognize the true prophets from the false prophets. The true prophets receive revelations from the HOLY SPIRIT and write them and so are mixed up with the false prophecies and as a whole is the continuation of the Bible today; while the false prophets write through their own intellect and interpretations of events; thus, they say I have made a research for 30 years about these prophecies- is an indication of a false prophet. It is because prophecies are revelations from THE HOLY SPIRIT not from one's intellect or math calculations of the 2nd coming of THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. One cannot put GOD under a microscope and study GOD as if GOD is a science specimen. THANKS GOD; FEAR GOD; PRAISE GOD; GLORIFY GOD; HONOR GOD; LOVE GOD AND WORSHIP GOD. Well, I would have to say God did write a book for us... it's called the Qur'an! It comes in Hardback, Paperback and is an E-Book. And this book is the greatest miracle given to mankind, should one just open it and read it with a soft heart and attentive mind.
