Monica, as a parent, there are some things your parents shouldn't involve you in. I don't know what sort of problem you're talking about, or how old you are, but don't try to take on adult problems before you have to.
On the other hand, you are correct...adults should listen to their kids more, and ask their opinion about important family issues. I wish I had communicated better with my boys when they were younger.
Just try not to be too frustrated, and remember how you felt about this when the day comes and YOU are the parent! It'll help you be a better mom.

Maybe the parents in this and similar situations are simply choosing to handle the problems and issues and doing their best to keep the kids from having to worry about such things.
My question would be "why do children feel that they are entitled to join into every conversation their parents have, as if they were equals?"
I'm not being mean or bashing - but honestly, if money were a problem, for example, and your parents were trying to figure out a way to save some, what would your advice be?
Would you offer to give up cable (or satellite) TV? Your cell phone? The internet? New clothes? Social things with your friends? Driving or being driven places?
Some things are adult business - some things aren't. If they say it is "adult business"...then it is.

I think you are mistaken. Most parents DO listen to their kids. Just because your parents don't doesn't mean that other parents don't either. You are right that a parent should listen to their kids, but all parents are not created equal. Besides, sometimes kids ARE wrong. Then what? You do not present both sides to this story.

They don't want you to share in carrying their burdens they encounter in the relationship and they really don't know how to accept your help or tell you how you can help. I really don't think it's not listening in these kinds of situations.
There are just too many answers to give, some reasonable and some just plain excuses. Parents know everything, kids know everything so where is the in between?

Well I'm 13 and my paren't's do the same thing.I think the answer is that they think that since we arent adults everything we say is stupid.Like sometimes i overhear my parents problems and i give them suggestions but they immediately dismiss them ask they're friends and they say Wat i said and then my parents listen to them but nothing i say. They know we have problems but they think that our problems they think that ours are stupid and that just Cuz were kids life is easy at least that's wat most think. But not all paren'ts are like that and sometimes we are wrong but we arent always wrong.

no, they're not trying to tell u that u dont have problems, they just think that because they're adults, u wont understand their problem cuz ur a kid. i get that a lot from my parents, and sometimes i get fustrated, but u have to understand that when they have a problem, they dont expect a kid to help them.
