I know I don't...It is not fair to force someone to fight in a war if they do not agree with it. Then say well you live here, so fight for the country; what if they wish not to live in the country but cannot leave because they do not have the money to or leave when the draft comes and get arrested for supposedly 'avoiding the draft.'

What if you just do not want to fight in the war? I would most definately opt out.

I think that any sort of draft should only come into play if America were to be directly attacked (invasion), otherwise it is not necissary if one disagrees with the purpose of the specific war in place. It is not right to force a war onto it's people. I would consider this type of event as an indirect suppression.

What are your current beliefs of the "Draft?"

I do not support a draft, for many of the same reasons as you. I don't support war, either.

If there were a draft (though I'm a girl) I would not desert. I am currently in the inactive ready reserve, which basically I was in the military for four years, now that my four years are up I'm a civilian but if the war got bad enough they could call me up anytime they wanted. I guess I would feel dirty and like a coward if I didn't fight for the country to which I live and believe in. I guess I see it as my duty to fight if my country called. Since I'm a girl and feel this way I think that any guy that "runs" from the draft is coward.

It really doesn't matter how anyone feels though, if the draft is reinstated then it's the end of world, seriously.

I believe.
Not only that but it should be for men and women because we are all equal now..

How do you not fight for your country regardless of where the battle is. Screw personal beliefs. Its bigger then that.

If every person was able to say nah, I'd rather not because this doesn't affect me (yet), you wouldn't have to worry about having a choice, a job or a life anymore. Every battle we are engaged in shows the world we aren't afraid to fight. We are prepared to fight and don't back down.

For the record, if a draft is called and you don't go, it makes you a draft dodger.
But who knows, maybe one day you can be President and have the weight of the world on your shoulders and then have people "avoid" your draft when you really need them.

First, I do believe in a draft, but only if it is absolutely necessary. Because we have a volunteer armed forces, it is not necessary at this time. And if it became necessary to impose a draft, I would go if I had to as that is one of your obligations as a citizen of the United States.

As to your concern that you do not have the money to leave. People that do not have money seem to find their way into this country all of the time. Look at Cuban citizens looking to defect, or Mexicans crossing the borders. It can certainly be done if you were adamant about not fighting.

If you just don't want to fight in the war, then that is your prerogative, but you should make arrangements to leave the country at that point.

As a combat veteran (Army Infantry) I do not think we should have a draft but, not for the same reasons you are against it.
If we had a draft, we would seriously lose a lot of technological edge because a large number of people who previously couldn't get in the military will now be joining the brave and fairly intelligent young men and women currently serving. Discipline will also be a thing of the past. We would have to go back to the policy of only the strong survive. Basically the strongest, not the most intelligent or experienced person would be in charge. It would be like Vietnam all over again with young people burning draft cards and spitting at soldiers. Canada would be full of draft dodgers and our great military would generally be a mess.
That being said, If they did bring back the draft, I would personally chase down every stinking little dodger who feels that only other people should die for him or her to enjoy the freedoms we all have and I would personally escort them to the nearest Jail.
If they did bring back the draft, it should be a choice to everyone drafted: 2 years in the military or 2 years on a chain gang.

The draft no, compulsory service yes. I firmly believe that everyone over the age of 18 should serve in the military in some capacity for at least 2 years. Many other modernized countries have it with no problems. The only hitch would be to ensure that even the wealthy, and politician families serve as well.

No, it is a display of those bastards in Washington that screw up with a small force. The solution is not in numbers, it is in strategy, and Washington doesn't have that strategy. What good is ten quickly trained GIs compared to one very proficient in the ways of the military? What good is the draft for when we merely march on other people's soil, why not defend America in America?

If there is a direct invasion of your country, I could agree with it. That is why "The right to bear arms", is in the Constitution. To invade foreign countries, that's a different story. Iraq is not, and has never been a threat to the US or it's neighbors for that matter, so it is an illegal war, as would an invasion of Iran.

This country has never drafted anyone. That's why we lost World War II. Read some history, learn about how the founding fathers were more in favor of national service by citizen soldiersthan a professional army of mercenaries, and don't listen to the morons on here

I'm against a draft. You get better results with a military that is volunteered. Vietnam is a good example of what happens when people are drafted.
