I've noticed a lot of trolls on here, and I'm just curious. If you find something that you disagree with, do you thumbs down, just because it goes against your views?

Or do you use the ratings the way they're supposed to, to indicate a valid, accurate response to a question?

I see a lot of valid answers to the question, and I can't decide which one is best. So I'll put it up for vote.

Ratings the way they're supposed to. Even if I don't agree with something, if it's well-written and insightful it gets a thumbs up.

Example:

"Hilary Clinton sucks because I disagree with her foreign policy.." etc. would get a thumbs up.

"Hilary Clinton sucks because she's ugly and eats babies" would get a thumbs down.

I do not thumbs down unless the answer is intended to be hurtful or vulgar. I frequently give many thumbs up to varying beliefs if the answer is well thought out, logical, and informative. I know I have at least two trolls that follow me; but I really don't care if everyone agrees. I mainly care that I have considered things carefully and I look forward to answers that cause me to go back and research more.

I give a thumbs up when someone gives a thorough explanation of their view. Most of the time I just don't rate the answer unless it agrees with my opinion.

I give thumbs down when someone either doesn't answer the question at all, or gives an answer that really doesnt contribute to the discussion.

I also give thumbs up for funny answers because I think its important to lighten the mood sometimes.

I give a thumbs down to any answer where the person is simply telling the questioner that they are wrong. Saying "you're wrong" without giving any explanation as to why is not a valid response in my opinion.

I give thumbs down to unclear answers, answers which generalize with no proof or backup (all theists are trolls), or answers that are just a giant cut and paste (bible verses). I give thumbs up to well thought out answers, even if I disagree. Or I don't give either a thumbs up or down if it doesn't go either way.

I have given thumbs down to atheists before, as well, if they make all atheists look bad.

Check out the political area of Y! Answers then.

Most people do just automatically thumbs down an answer that doesn't specifically follow their beliefs.

I don't take it personally, or care about the way people use the rating system. It's rather pointless anyway.

I thumbs down stupid answers, but they have to be really stupid. Like the last one I just tossed was for "I'm 14 and I need to lose weight"...to which someone [stupid] replied "I drink tons of red bull each day and only eat when my stomach hurts so bad, I'm 14 too"....

Obviously that answer qualifies. :) I don't pay much attention to getting them or giving them though honestly. Yes, there are a lot of trolls who are stupid and annoying. I think they are most in Politics and Religion and Spirituality. I hate answering questions under those categories.

I don't give thumbs down, nor will I block/report abuse.

I don't even know anymore, it's been a year since I last read the guidelines.

I'd say atheist trolls. There were all the fireball clones, the whynotaskdons, Pwned Jesus, there were a lot. I liked the whynotaskdons, it was so original. I even made a Moses character, he desired macaroni pictures.

I click on thumbs up mostly when they give a well thought out or funny answer.

I click on thumbs down ONLY when it is this giant long piece of cut and paste crap. That way I have room on my screen for the people who actually answered the question themselves.

There are several christian trolls whose only post content is religious drivel lacking any question at all. Is this a valid, accurate response to your question?
