My dog has been potty trained for 2 years now. She doesn't have occasional accidents etc., she goes to the door and holds it until we bring her out. We never have a problem with her, she barks or whines to let us know. Last night we brought a new dog home to dog-sit for a friend and our dog completely reverted. While we were awake she was perfectly fine and even played with the dog but when I woke up in the middle of the night I found that she had pee'd TWICE on our carpet and poo'd TWICE in a matter of a couple of hours. I'm sure it has to do with jealousy, anxiety etc. but my question is, will we now have to completely retrain her after all this time and will she go back to normal once the other dog is gone?? I don't want to have to take her priviledges away or mine since I love having her sleep in the bed with me at night :(

It's not jealousy or anxiety....if she played with the other dog, then she doesn't have a problem with it. But the whole routine that your dog lived in has suddenly been turned upside down. Think about it. Has she had the opportunity to ask to get out? Or is there too much going on with the other dog? Be sure that you don't allow the two dogs to play around with each other and *forget* to ask to get out. Take them out separately to clean themselves. Make sure that you spend some time on your own dog, just as you normally would.

I'm sure it's due to the new dog, she could even be submissive peeing to this dog. Be sure and clean the area with a special product made for dog accidents otherwise she will remark the area due to pheremones and enzemes. She should stop the behavior when this pet is gone. I would take her to the bathroom additional times and perhaps stop her water for the night around 7 pm.

Yes, this is due to the other dog. Your dog is probably just scared of being alone with the other dog or is peeing submissively to show the other dog that she will obey the other dog. Just try to make your dog comfortable as possible until the other dog goes home.

As long as you clean up the mess with something that takes the smell out she should be fine after the other dog leaves

It is anxiety with the other dog. Keep on her to maintain her house training, wash the areas with vinegar, not ammonia... And she should be fine when the dog leaves.

Send the other dog packing...You know the other dog is upsetting your dog. Don't punish your dog for something it can't help.

You still have to discipline her, but the behavior will likely end when the new dog goes home.
