I need to black out the windows in our school hall

I needed a temporary, cheap option for the months I was working night shift. I cut a piece of cardboard to fit my window, spray painted the outside-facing side white (like the lining of drapes) and the inside-facing side the same color as my drapes. I nailed the cardboard to the window frame, and you couldn't even tell by looking at the window what I had done. It was completely black in the room while I was trying to sleep, and easy to remove when I went back to morning shift!

Temporarily, you can tape sheets of black butcher paper over the window panes. Cardboard, tarp material, or heavy plastic sheeting will work too.

For a more permanent solution, you'll need to apply two or more coats of dark paint.

Hi,

The permanent thing would be to paint them black but somehow I don't think that is what you want.

Two other options buy or get the woodworking class to make shutters.

The second option is to by black out curtains and a rail or blackout roller blinds.

Along with stone, mud and animal parts, wood was one of the first materials worked by early humans. Microwear analysis of the Mousterian stone tools used by the Neanderthals show that many were used to work wood. The development of civilization was closely tied to the development of increasingly greater degrees of skill in working these materials.
