Just relax. Keep telling yourself it's no big deal. Try to distract yourself by singing a song in your head.

To the other responders, he means how do I breath when in the dentist's chair with they are working in his mouth.

this is what i wrote in my exam:

The respiratory system
1 nasal cavity(nose):Air Breathed in is filtered
2 Pharynx:Makes sure the air goes to the wind pipe
3 Larynx:The voice box contains the vocal cords
4 Trachea:10cm(the windpipe)tube made of cartliages
5 Bronchi:2 tubes.Each broncus leads to a lung
6 Bronchioles:Branches of the bronchi. Many small narrow tubes
7 Alveoli:Very tiny sacs with thin walls that allow exchange of gases with the blood.BREATHED IN OXYGEN
BREATHED OUT CARBON DIOXIDE
There are 300 million alveoli in the lungs!!

I ALSO KNOW ABOUT THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM AND THE CERCULATORY .

HAPPY??
I hope you have understood

Little muscles between the ribs (internal intercostals) pull at an angle, spreading your ribs apart. Because your ribcage is bigger, the pressure inside it drops. Air from outside is sucked in through your nostrils (and your mouth if it's open) by the lower pressure inside.

(red blood cells in the capillaries surrounding your 'alveoli' suck oxygen through the thin capillary wall, becoming bright red and 'oxygenated')

After a short while, the internal intercostals relax, and another set of intercostal muscles (external inters) pull the ribs together. This squashes the air back out, together with carbon dioxide that was released from solution in the blood serum in the capillaries.

If you want to breathe more deeply, you can activate the Diaphragm muscle, which forms the 'floor' of the ribcage. This muscle, contracting at the same time as the int inters, squashes the abdominal organs out of the way (so that they bulge your belly outwards), making more room for air in your lungs.

The best way to breathe (called a 'COMPLETE BREATH' in yoga), uses both of these systems in turn. You can practice this by lying on your back, with a hand on your chest and the other hand on your belly.

You breathe 'in, in, out, out' (instead of 'in,out'), by expanding your ribs (your chest hand rises) and then using your diaphragm to fill your lungs even more (so your belly hand rises). Then you let air out from your ribs, and then from your belly. With practice, you can learn to do this very smoothly and'naturally', and it's good for you because it exchanges air very effectively between your lungs and the atmosphere.

Normally, people breathe in a very disorganised way (it's not usually taught), and can develop habitual breathing patterns that make it difficult to get enough oxygen, or to get rid of carbon dioxide properly.

Interesting but it is a function of your lower brain stem at the base of your neck sending signals to your diaphragm to contract which creates a vacuum,,, thus air entering your lungs. Inside your lungs the O2 is absorbed through lung tissue and CO2 is expelled.

Cool stuff huh!

Breathing is an automatic and unconscious function of the body. The exception is when you specifically think about it, and then you can control it yourself.

are you a rock? just take in air and leave some out. keep doing this like a cycle. within a few minutes, you'll get used to it, and you will stop noticing that you are actually breathing all the time.

What a strange question and even stranger to put in the Dental section!! As you appear to be new to Yahoo Answers- have a look at a few other questions and Answers and you will see how it all works- you might then think of something sensible to ask!!!
