For me it was actually going to my first race that got me excited about racing. It is the thrill of the competition, the fast speeds, the close calls and the drivers. . .we get a personal side of the drivers which makes you pull for the one you love like he is your family.
The fans are amazing. . .I have met some of the best people at races. You end up talking to whoever is around you everyone has something to say. It is one of the few places you go to today where over 100,000 people will stand and say the pledge and bow their heads in prayer together. . . .everyone becoming one for a moment regardless of what team is on your shirt.
It is something to share with family. . .to tell the stories of past drivers. My son and I like to watch some of the old races and then I get to watch a whole new generation of drivers open up for my son.
Seeing my son's face at his first race. . . the experience of a lifetime.

The history of NASCAR can not even compare to the HUGE history of baseball in America, but then again, few sports have such a rich history as baseball. Next, even though NASCAR is at times a contact sport, it can not compare to the consistent contact of football. In foot ball there is action every single play, NASCAR tries to avoid wrecks and contact for the most part. See, you can bet on NASCAR in multiple ways (Drivers to win, Match-ups, Qualifying, Top drivers, Cup winners, Top Ford/Chevy/Dodge/Toyota, etc..) much like all the other sports, you have tailgating like football games, and you are rooting for your favorite driver/team.

After some more thinking...and actually watching some NASCAR races and attending some in person, I began seeing what this sport has that no other sport can offer. See, in my mind, the number ONE reason this sport is so popular and gaining popularity on a daily basis is the fact that...for the most part...you are actually cheering not only for colors/name but you are cheering for real live humans! Since you are rooting and cheering for humans, NASCAR has rivalries and drama each week between drivers. Drivers keep their numbers/sponsors (most of the time)/and crew the same their entire career. Also, much like football you only have one event per week, only NASCAR does one better, they have everyone compete at the same time (just imagine every football team playing on the same field at the same time). NASCAR is also a relatively young sport and technology is consistently changing/making the sport more competitive.

Again, another great thing about this sport is how they treat the rookies. It is the only sport that I know of that purposely single out the rookies, (every Rookie in NASCAR has bright yellow stripes on the bottom of their car, both front and back) this makes for some interesting bumping and fun with the rookies at 200 MPH. NASCAR has strategies as well.....who to draft with, when to pit, how to adjust the car in the pit, 2 or 4 tires or gas only...oh yeah...and all these decisions are made with in 12 seconds or less.

Then there are the wrecks. I would be lying if i said i didn't get excited every time there was a wreck. Pretty much, you get to see live wrecks at 200 MPH between multiple cars...really...how cool is that!? Oh-yeah, not only do you get ONE day of tailgating, but you get THREE days of tailgating. Anyway, those were my thoughts...

It's not just the race... It's all the interaction between the drivers and the ability to successfully, and sometimes not so successfully, week in and week out play the odds. It's about the constant communication between a driver and his crew to be able to modify most problems within a matter of seconds. These men and some women race because it's what they love and have a passion for living life to it's fullest. How many people can say that?? Most people would love to ride in one at least once in their lives to be able to feel that power that you have at your fingertips.

Princess the cars going round is not the idea. There is a competition between man and machine and team verses team.Who has the fastest car,who has a driver that can work a poor handling car. There is so much more than cars going round.
The race is not only for the victory but for the next position in line for the back runners. It is the quailifing,it is the pit work.So if you go with the idea it is cars going round then you will never get it.

To quote Mossy Oak brand camouflage:

"It's not a passion, it's an obsession."

It's just a obsession some people have and some don't. The ones that have it can't understand why the ones that don't have it, don't have it. And the ones that don't have it can't understand why the ones that do have it, have it. It's just something you're born with I guess. If you could ever get into it, you would understand it.

If you watch races and all you ever see is cars going in circles that's all you'll ever see. It's all about stratagey and decisions made both in the pits and on the track.

Its the passion of the drivers week in and week out that makes the sport really great. There's a lot more to it than turning left. I guess you would have to watch it more to understand :)

Yeah, it's a little like baseball. No one wants the ball. The pitcher don't want it so he throws it toward home, the hiiter, he don't want it so he hits it in the outfield, that guy don;t want it so he toss's it back to the pitcher or a baseman. This crap just goes on and on for 3 hours. Boring isn't it???

What is so great about it is... It brings people like you who hate the sport in here to ask us why we watch cars go in circles... but its so much more than that, but I wont bore you with it.

It reflects the past time of every kid in America when they are in their late teens with their drivers liscense. Racing is built into ever person who has ever pushed down the accelerator and felt the roar of an engine. Its the thrilling accomplishment of saying "I'm faster than everyone on this track".
