The official name of the religion is "Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses", and so they believe their religion to be a restoration of the worship and pattern of the apostles and other first century C.E. Christians. Of course, the bible cites Jesus Christ and also Adam's son Abel as "Witnesses" and the beginnings of pure worship.

(Hebrews 11:4;12:1,2) Abel... had witness borne to him that he was righteous, God bearing witness... Because we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also put off every weight and the sin that easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, as we look intently at the Chief Agent and Perfecter of our faith, Jesus

(Revelation 1:5) Jesus Christ, “the Faithful Witness”

The modern history of the religion began in the 1870's.

First of all, it isn't my church or your church. Christ founded HIS church and only one church. Since he is the founder, it bears his name, the church of Christ.

The churches of Christ today (not affiliated with the United or International Church of Christs) is the same church that was established in 33AD. The church of Christ was not started by the Campbell's, they were merely instrumental in restoring the church back to it's first century roots. When the catholic church was founded 300 years after the church of Christ, there were many who did not agree with this denomination and the the man-made traditions and teachings that perverted the truth and the Bible. Other denominations followed and went further away from Bible teaching and put their trust in men.

The church of Christ has remained constant and is still in existence today. We worship the same way the Apostles did in the first century. We follow the Bible alone, no creeds, no edicts and no man-made traditions.

The church of Christ is non-denominational and is the ONE church that Jesus Christ built.

I read my Bible and just like in Acts Chapter 2, I attended a church that had all things in common, and so I didn't believe them. I believed God, the Holy Spirit is my teacher, but I have a great fellowship that I really love being around.

If you don't want to spend time with Christians on Earth, Why would you want to spend eternity with them?

Lets see, JESUS CHRIST founded "all" Christians...

Now, denomination wise, if the Catholic Churches wouldnt have gone the way of the paharasies with all thier "pomp and pagentries", and stuck to being "Christianized", then maybe the protestants wouldnt have had to do what they did, break away from there....

Campbell Brothers started the Church of CHRIST, to which I am affiliated with now, but, I am a baptist at heart, because of doctrine differences.

But, to me, if its Christian, and the basic premise is loving JESUS CHRIST, then I will go to any Church that believes in HIM.

I wish you well...

Wow. What a great question!!!
ahhhhh.... Charles Taze Russell...
I was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and a full time minister. We were taught to know the founder well. To this day I think he was a good man who only wanted people to see the spiritual need and organize masses for strength. If it is a religion born of good intentions, then that kind of yearning for greater spirituality in the world could never be wrong.
But your good to point out that they ARE from one founder. A man. Or woman. A belief.
But in the end...
I chose spiritual freedom because after much thought and prayer... I felt that my founders beliefs just did not quite match my own. (god cannot bless only one religion OR country) And that makes you realize that they were just beliefs of one person when they are born.
I think Life is calling for us to have spiritual freedom. And if we choose to believe in groups... make sure your group does not disregard and disrespect the beliefs of others! Diversity in unity. BE your founder!!!

As a Christian, Christianity is my way of life. I worship God at a community Church. A community Church is basically non-denominational.

"The Church's one foundation
Is Jesus Christ her Lord"

The Church’s one foundation
is Jesus Christ her Lord;
she is his new creation
by water and the word:
from heaven he came and sought her
to be his holy bride;
with his own blood he bought her,
and for her life he died.

Elect from every nation,
yet one o’er all the earth,
her charter of salvation
one Lord, one faith, one birth;
one holy name she blesses,
partakes one holy food,
and to one hope she presses
with every grace endued.

Though with a scornful wonder
men see her sore opprest,
by schisms rent asunder,
by heresies distrest,
yet saints their watch are keeping,
their cry goes up, ‘How long?’
and soon the night of weeping
shall be the morn of song.

Mid toil and tribulation,
and tumult of her war,
she waits the consummation
of peace for evermore;
till with the vision glorious
her longing eyes are blest,
and the great Church victorious
shall be the Church at rest.

Yet she on earth hath union
with God the three in one,
and mystic sweet communion
with those whose rest is won;
O happy ones and holy!
Lord, give us grace that we,
like them the meek and lowly,
on high may dwell with thee.

Christ founded my Church - I know Him well enough to believe in Him, and Trust in him. He's a good guy, and we are friends.
