Mainly education, and I don't mean school. IF parents, even non-parents understood, truly understood how abysmal the food they're eating and serving really is I don't think they could get it close to their faces.

If they knew the Gov and USDA think it's O.K. for feces to be in your meat(parts per million), if they knew the pay-offs, and dirty dealing that allows chemicals such as Aspartame into the diet of millions, if they knew they were being used as lab rats for the testing of GMO's in this country(in 60% of grocery items:UNlabeled); if they knew there are 15 thousand chemicals producers DO NOT have to list on their labels; if they knew about 'country of origin' of the foods they buy at Wal-Mart and other places....if they knew, maybe something would happen.

The only way anyone is going to find out is to educate themselves. Start reading, investigate, question. The information is out there. Yes, the multi-BILLION dollar corporations and government lackies want to discredit the information, but I think most people are smart enough to see the truth when it stares them in the face.

The kids ARE being poisoned, heck, if you eat from the grocery store, YOU'RE being poisoned. I hope folks will begin to investigate this. In many instances it could mean your life.

Foods: eliminate one food at a time and decide which of the unhealthy foods you eat is you favorite and keep it as a treat. Exercise? Forgive yourself your failures and just do it. There is no secret to getting motivated to exercise, you need to find something you can do without feeling bored. I run because I love to feel fast others play tennis, swim or bike for the same because they like to do the activity. Gyms are the worst place to stay motivated, they are loud, crowded and full of self centered grunters for the most part ( no offense to gym members who don't grunt). The best thing is to pick a summer and a winter activity that you enjoy and make a schedule to do it.

Read Jim Hightower's book "Eat your Heart Out" (1975), about how food profiteers victimize the consumer... I'm talking about 30 year ago statistics, and it is probably worse now...The consumer? Hell, the farmer, too, both just like a vise...
Junk food is all around us, even our American food icon is now the Twinkie... No damn wonder the kids are exposed to too much processed food.
In Hightower's words:... "Sure, nobody wants to wake up at 4:00 AM and churn their own butter, but nobody surrounded Betty Crocker's headquarters asking for "Breakfast squares"... It is an example of "Top down" decisions thjat we were not asked to partake in..
That industry is ripe for regulation, and corrupt with lobbyists all over the capital. it is high time to do something.
BUT IT WILL TAKE COMMITMENT. LIKE RESOLVING NEVER TO EAT AT MCDONALD'S AGAIN... Can you? I just wonder...
Anyway Boycotts work...

The healthy organisations..etc should launch campaigns educating people about healthy foods benefits..vis avi dangers of unhealthy foods. Then liase with companies that produce them so that products are offered at least a dollar less than unhealthy food thus being an incentive for pple to purchase them...

If it comes individually wrapped, or you can pop it in the microwave for 2 minutes to cook it, chances are it is not worth buying.

Nothing beats giving the kids each $5 at a farmer's market and letting them pick out fresh fruits and vegetables. You wouldn't believe what they will try when it is "their own idea"!

:)

Moms should be more available to cook good, nutritious meals!
When grocery shopping, thought and planning would ensure that a lot of cookies, chips, sodas and the like won't be purchased.
Kids don't control most of what they eat. They need their moms to be more responsible.

As for adults, not much can be done.

Well it's also up to the parents what they feed them. If Mom/Dad have no time to cook healthy the kids will dig into junk food!
